Don Martz
Don Martz of Johnstown, PA, passed away the morning of February 2. Those of you who knew Don knew that he was a kind and generous man, and a heck of a Steel Player. He mentored many in Western and Central Pennsylvania. I met Don at Johnny Andrews' celebration, after he passed away in the summer 2015...

Western PA, Westmoreland Co, Steel Player, Waylon Cover Band
Hey Fellas, I'm getting a Waylon Tribute Band together since I had a ridiculous amount of success with a Johnny Cash Cover Band. Hoping to play just about every Friday and some Saturdays. I may be able to get a dates before the New Year, but if not, we'll start in January. I'd be doing the steel mys...

Carter Starter Pickup Rout
Hey guys, I've had this Carter-Starter for a while and I've been experimenting with different pickups. I've wound up sticking with a '50s Classic Telecaster Bridge pickup for the past couple years because it is so incredibly bright. The only problem with it is that it is designed for a 6 string, so ...

My FREE Waylon Tribute Album - Lots of Pedal Steel
Hey guys! Being a huge fan of Waylon Jennings (and an even bigger fan of Ralph Mooney), I decided to record a little tribute album to them, and I'm giving it away as a way of getting my name out there as an player and an artist. Here's two Youtube Previews: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wzNPXqIVfQ...

My Tribute to Ralph Mooney - Above & Beyond
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8XUBucsoWA As we all know... Moon passed away last March. He was my favorite steel guitar player. I recorded this song in tribute to him. I put this in the video description... it's my little memorial to him. I'm sorry if I got some of the information incorrect, pleas...

Super Depressing Original Hardcore Country Song
Greetings my fellow steel players! Here's a song that I wrote, recorded, and mixed today. There's 7 tracks: Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Bass Drum, Snare Drum, Overhead Drum Kit, Electric Bass, and Pedal Steel Guitar. I play all the instruments. I arranged it similarly to a song that Dwight Yoakam and B...

I really enjoyed listening to those, Clinton! You're a very good player and you're getting a very cool sound out of that Carter. You didn't say anything about how you recorded the vocal so I'm guessing it might not be a big deal to you. But most listeners will go there first, and to me the Tele, st...

Covers of Marty Stuart's Ghost Train Album
Being a fan of Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives I couldn't help myself... The steel was done on my modified Carter Starter. It has 8 strings (removed the top two) and a Telecaster Bridge Pickup in place of the stock one. Sometimes I plugged directly in. When I didn't, I ran out of a stock ...

As we've discussed prior, you and I are sometimes too far away to make some of these low paying jobs (the $80-100 per man jobs) My drummer wanted to me to put an ad up on craigslist to see if there was an...

Carter Starter Mod - Telecaster Pickup Swap
Hi Guys, I wanted to get a brighter tone out of my Carter Starter so I took out the stock pickup, drilled new holes, and put in a GFS Telecaster Bridge Pickup 7k in it's place. I also removed strings one and two because the pup wasn't picking them up. http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/ww203/lerb21/...

Pedal Steeler needed for Bakersfield Band in SW PA
Hi guys, I'm trying to form a Bakersfield-Sound-on-steroids kinda band here in Westmoreland County. I've got a Bassist, Drummer, and Lead Guitarist lined up, along with myself on Rhythm Guitar and Vocals. Now the way I plan on arranging these songs, the Pedal Steel is the most important lead instrum...

Buck Owens/Ray Price Style Shuffle - "Soon"
I was bored today in school so I jotted down two verses and a chorus on a scrap of paper. I came home and recorded in that good ol' 4/4 shuffle style, Mooney emulating steel and all. http://www.box.net/shared/xi6is4yug9 All the instruments are played by me. Sorry if the song writing is a bit iffy, b...

Clinton, it would be interesting to know what other modifications you made on your Telecaster, apart from the volume pot. I tried to get as close to Don's '64 (Or was it a '65?) as I could. Fender USA Custom 62' pickups, the ones in the 62 RI. I wired those in goofy kind of wiring, no caps or anyth...

ZB Guitar Sound, what makes it?
Here's the back story: I've been trying to emulate the sound of the Buck Owens' Buckaroos for a good long while now. As many of us know, we have two lead instruments in the 5 piece setup, Pedal Steel (ZB) and Electric Guitar (Telecaster). I've finally got Don Rich's tone down, but it took a heck of ...

It just comes up with a download option. I don't think I want to post it on the forum yet, since it contains so man...
