Any interest in a Sierra?
1980's Olympic(?) model, keyed U12, 8x5 w/vertical, rosewood, lever lock on the E's. Built like a tank. Plays & sounds great, just more guitar than I need.

Basic mechanical question
I'm noticing the 6th string on my Sierra going flat as I'm further up the fretboard, even without any pedals or levers engaged. Is there some obvious way I'm missing to fine tune scale length per string?

Cajun steel guitar
I've been playing for a while now with a group doing a combination of western swing/country material, but also incorporating a number of cajun tunes. So far, I've been getting by on my D8 but would like to transition to pedals.
So, what cajun players should I be listening to for inspiration?

Thanks for the tips and leads so far! Makes me wonder if it's worth delving into traditional six-string jazz/swing material which must be more widely available. That said, I learn best by ear and find YouTube's half- and quarter-speed playback settings a godsend for working out stuff from recordings...

Western Swing Instruction Material?
I realize my best bet is to pony up for some lessons but I'm curious if there's anything out there that picks up where the Cindy Cashdollar dvds leave off (steel guitar rag). I'm playing with a band (or making some steel guitar-like sounds, at least) so while songbooks are helpful, is there anything...

3/4 Bar on a budget
Don't need anything boutique, I just want to try something lighter than my 7/8 for lap steel. Thanks!

Push/Pull pot for tone/pickup selection on D8?
May be in over my head, but I'm hoping to rewire a Vega D8 currently configured with a nonfunctioning three-way pot/two OIP caps controlling tone. The thought is to combine neck selection plus boo-wah without drilling space for a toggle switch or otherwise mounting one externally. Could I achieve ne...

I use McAuliffe's tuning, except that the lower 3 strings are high to low: E, D, B. I went back and forth between the 8th string E and the 6th, but it just seems a lot more versatile with the E and D together. The 8th string E seemed to get lost in the band mix for me. definitely. I agree. that Low...

WTB S8 Lap/Console
I've been keeping an eye on the "for sale" section, but figured I'd see what else is out there.
Ideally hoping to find something on the lower-budget side of vintage with 3/8-ish string spacing. Doesn't have to be pretty or perfect. Mojo > collectability.
Legs would be great.

The E-string bent up a whole tone with the C pedal, together with the first string. I think that's what Al Perkins did here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctZpejVICco At least I played it and it wasn't bad. I didn't catch it in the song, but I think that's the move I'm looking for and have availa...

Help me find this common E9 lick utilizing unisons...
Bear with me, I'll do my best to describe it: the lick usually comes in on the "and" of the first beat, on the third of the chord followed by another string bending up to match from a whole step below, you fiddle between the two unisons a bit, then bend back down. I hear it often enough in...

another "3rd string breakage" thread
I see this is a common problem and I feel as though I've tried all of the obvious tips mentioned in previous threads (rotated/cleaned roller, checked for burrs, smoothed finger with fine grit paper, wrapped carefully a good number of times, stretched string, brought it up to tune slowly) but to no a...
