I just wanted to post an update after I rewired the guitar. We were on the road for a few dates when I did the work (in a hotel room no less) and I didn't take the time for photos. I wired the guitar for "independent volume controls" as one of the links above shows with the addition of a t...

I know I'm not stupid, but I'll admit I'm not a pickup wiring expert and my parents were in junior high in 1973. I'm confident, Jim, you know what you're talking about, but I know for sure there is a difference in the pickup wiring in my 335 after it was rewired. I understand what you're getting at ...

FWIW I like the volumes to work that way too, but it isn't necessary, they can still be used to mix the PU as they are, I don't know why that is not understood...that's why they're there, the guitar companies aren't so stupid they put unusable controls on a guitar... again, when you have both PUs o...

Jim, With all due respect the pickups can be wired to achieve what I'm after. My 335 was RE-WIRED by my tech to achieve this. It did not come from the factory like this. Lollar said nothing about the wiring of the pickups and I didn't ask him. We were discussing only the tone of the pickups. I under...

Thanks, Henry! This has been helpful. Now I've gotta order the parts. So your guitar is now wired how I described? Each volume is independent?

Steve, Yes, some high end is rolling off but there is a definite volume drop. Let's say I have the bridge volume on 10 and the neck pickup on 1. I want it wired so that when in the middle position it is AS LOUD as the bridge only position. Right now it is only as loud as the pickup with the lowest v...

72 Telecaster Custom wiring

I'm replacing the stock bridge pickup in my bandmate's 72 RI Tele Custom with a Lollar. I'm going to upgrade the switch, pots, cap, jack and Electrosocket. I need some guidance. For those unfamiliar here's a link to the stock wiring diagram. http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/pdfs/72TELECSTM/SD0...

I'm considering picking one of these up. Is the pickup cavity made to accomodate a Tele bridge pickup or Strat? Are the tuners any count? If not I suppose they could be easily replaced with Grovers or the like without much modification, right?

Alcohol can damage some finishes, especially those found on vintage instruments, so be careful when using it. Good point, Lynn. Thank you. That said, one of my main guitars is a recent Korean Epiphone Sorrento. I took 400 grit sandpaper and steel wool to the whole thing and gave her a nice coat of ...

I agree with Lynn. Avoid lemon oil. The other oils suggested should work fine. Once or twice a year, depending on use, I use rubbing alcohol and a cotton rag to clean the dirt, sweat, buildup from the fretboards of my guitars. I let them air dry, lightly coat them with oil and let them sit for an ho...

I see, Theo, you put stickers of the notes along each fret? I've seen a similar technique on upright basses.

Nice work, Rick! Restoring an old instrument and putting it back on the stage is certainly rewarding. Are you running straight into the Twin?

Mike, I can date a Fender amplifier within a few years simply by looking at the faceplate. Concerning the blackface era and beyond, we know that after CBS purchased Fender they changed the "Fender Electric Instruments" tag under the amp model name on the faceplate to "Fender Musical I...

Thanks, Basil. That makes a lot of sense.

Question: Do 7 string lap steels basically have one more treble string and 8 string lap steels one more treble and one more bass strings?

I realize I'm hitting this topic late, but I'll throw in my two cents. For the price of a new RI Twin Reverb you could buy a silverface TR. From first hand experience they are much more reliable (point to point versus pc board in a solder bath and any decent amp tech can fix just about any issue eas...

Thanks, William. Well, I haven't played guitar for 20 years so I guess I'm in for a heck of a challenge. But, I figure learning and practicing the lap steel can only make me a better six string picker. Thanks for the advice!

Long time listener, first time caller. Need some advice.

First off all I'd like to say hello to all members here on TSGF. I've browsed the forum on and off for a year or so for info, but just recently joined as I've decided to stop just thinking about buying a lap steel and buy one (as soon as I convince my wife). To give you some background I'm a rhythm ...
