D6 tuning six string
I'm a long time open D player. I've been looking at learning C6 tuning, but wondered if I should drop down a whole step and learn D6 instead? I'm thinking root position would transfer from open D to D6 a little easier for me? Any opinions on this? After a little research this would be my string gaug...

Thanks everyone. I'm not concerned about keeping it original, playability is my goal. I'll save the original part, though I doubt anyone will be able to find them when I'm dead an gone:-). Jack, I've saw that Kluson replacement tuning pan, but hoped to just find some replacement tuners. I'll do some ...

Replacement Tuners
I can't find any replacement tuners to fit a Guyatone 6 string lap steel passed down to me from my late grandfather. I've love the look and tone of it (I've replaced pickups), but the dang thing will not stay in tune. The tuning gears are slipping from what I can tell. I've tightened the tuning gear...

I heated paraffin was up to 160/170f and soaked the pickups for 30 minutes. I refererd to youtube as well were several individuals gave a step by step. I didn't do a DB test or anything, so maybe it did improve some after waxing, but it is still extremely microphonic to the point that I can't use th...

Guyatone Pickup replacement
I have a Guyatone 6 string lap steel that I inherited from my late Grandpa. I play blues and found that it squealed like a pig at a gig this past weekend when I switched to my dirty channel. After some research, I learned about microphonic pickups and that's definitely the problem with it, so I wax ...

Scratched bars
I have 3 or 4 scratched bars and I wondered whats the best way, if any, to buff the scratches out? The scratches aren't THAT deep, but enough to create the grinding tone on the wound strings. One of the bars is a hand me down from my granfather that i used to really like. So buying a new one just is...

Thanks for the idea Mark.. I may go that route, but I sure wish I could keep the chrome. Heck, you just make me think, I could use the chrome cover thats on the back of my blue one and use the pick gard to take its spot so that it wouldn't be noticable! Thats a Seymour Duncan p-90.. That basic one, ...

Rondo lap steel control plate
I got another Rondo a few weeks ago and it has the 'all in one' cover/control plate (its the natural one in the picture below). The volume and tone knob mounts the the same cover that goes over the saddle. I do not like the cover over the saddle, it interfers with my playing.. If I take my dremel to...

I had the luxury of stopping by my local pub, Mvoreens in Cartersville, GA one friday night and heard this soulful lady 'lola' play. Steve was filling in and I was freaking blown away by his guitar skills.. Then the joker broke out the lap steel, and I was AMAZED. He played the best version of amazi...

Which P-90 for my rondo lap steel
I've got a seymour duncan P-90 in my first rondo lap steel. its the standard P-90 that duncan makes. I just got another rondo lap steel and I'm getting ready to put another pickup in it. I LOVE the SD P90, but thought I'd try something different. I mentioned this on someone elese thread and Tom Pett...

Very nice job. I'd like to do that to mine. Can you tell a big difference in tone with the strings thru the body? I know there it resonates more thru the body, but can you actually tell it when plugged in? I tell ya, if you really want to make that rondo scream put a p90 in it. I've got 2 rondo's no...

Are these latest ones available with the PU/tail cover seperate from the V/T knobs or with the controls cover as part of the large PU cover? Mine came withe one large cover, volume knobs attached, which I don't like at all. I'll just have to mod it to cause I don't like the cover over the strings a...

I just ordered my 2nd one! Now I'm off to find some new tuners and another pickup. I think I'm going to modify this new one for dual pickups! I tell ya, I've been playing my first rondo like crazy and love it. Matter of facts its about all I play now. Last friday night during a gig it took a seroius...

A lot of good points and conversation here. Jeff, I'll look into the the jack hatfield CD you mention, it sounds right up my alley. I agree that more knowledge and theory would only help further more skill. The problem I've always had is that if I have 2 hours to spend, I'm going to spend that whole...

Not sure if this is the right forum for this discussion or not. I know musicians/friends that know every single note on the freeboard, string by string. They know diminished, 6ths, 7ths, 9ths, and whatever all that means. I haven’t a clue what they are talking about and usually just say, "play ...

Yeah, when they get more in I'll buy one.. I'd be happy with most any color other than black. I've never been a fan of black guitars for some reason. I'm not so sure about a fiesta red one Richard. I originally planned on sanding this rondo down and painting it a very light great, much lighter than ...

My modified Rondo lap steel
Hey all, I'm new to the forum and had been lurking around for a while. It was here that I read all about the rondo lap steels. Now, I'm a real tight wad with my money, so i figured the rondo plus a few modifications might turn out to be exactly what I was after.. I made the modificaitons the day the...

I have the blond blues jr and love it. Its 15 watts is PLENTY of power for me, I have never been drowned out by a drummer and I've never had to go past 4 with the master volume. I also like the fact that it is small, light, compact. I did replace the speaker due the old one busted or crapped out. I ...
