x over
good stuff fellas...appreciate the info all the way around. my thinking was that you could simply not use the x over feature and then you'd have a nice old bud for a decent price. sounds like there's more to the story though... benton, that's what im talking about! that's beautiful. i guess if...

you guys don't like the crossovers eh? i don't know much about them, although ive heard they're prone to mechanical issues.
on the other hand, lloyd green said that his x over was the best sounding bud he ever played...
clue me in on the issues with these...

string changing
this brings up an interesting question. im a rookie at this but ive noticed that after a month or two? ill get some funky (in a bad way) chiming or overtones at the twelfth fret. is this a fairly common phenomenon? i suppose that's a good clue to change the strings!

beginner material
hey kevin, one thing that has helped me a bunch (im a beginner too) is getting a music stand and a good chord chart. i believe i got mine from mel bay and it was very affordable. with the chart always handy i can quickly find out multiple ways to get and/or find a chord.
good luck!

i'll second c ledrews comment on the 70s twin or vibrosonic. i use a 73 mv twin for steel and it sounds fantastic, although pretty heavy. (one thing you could do for this though is pick up a cheap hand cart and you can carry your steel case and amp no problem.:D) if you're patient you should be able...
