This is seriously impressive, Guy! I tried to arrange it for C6th a few years ago, but never made it sound good. I just pulled out my notes, which sort of peter out around bar 24. Your arrangement is much more playable. Thanks!

And of course, sometimes people really do get away with ripping other artists off: The Drifters in 1960: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j9aDGstcfk The Grass Roots in 1967: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5NtzB-voZo The melody was sort of "laundered" through an Italian pop song (recorded...

Rick Beato analyzes Tiny Dancer

This guy is so good!

In this video, he breaks down Elton John's Tiny Dancer, including (but not focusing on) B.J. Cole's iconic Pedal Steel Part.

Haha. I was trying to phrase my outrage at the idea of John writing Yesterday gently but Bob beat me to the punch.

Inspiring as always, Dom. Really lovely!

Seven string is wonderful! I mostly play a C6th (high e) with a bottom string that I move between A and Bb. I think you should get a custom builder to make you one. I love my Clinesmith Frypan and would give up any vintage instrument to keep it. There are people with great reputations making more ec...

I found some tab I sketched out for the first outline a long time ago. I liked it, but I don’t think it took me very far as a lap steel instruction book. In the years since, I’ve enjoyed this book for listening and general jazz learning, mostly with a keyboard. It’s a very detailed exploration of vo...

Thanks, Jon. This is great! Looks good in portrait mode on an iPhone, too.

Bill, John Ely's Chord and Scale finders at Hawaiiansteel.com are out of commission. I hope he brings them back. They're incredible tools.

Thanks so much, Joe! I'd planned to assign a greek letter to each chord shape so I could cross reference them with a list of chord types, but I never got around to it. These are a few of my (smudged up and coffee stained) favourites. I wish I had time to correct them and copy them out neatly. https:...

I love this thread and I'm learning a lot from it. Thanks to everyone who has contributed. I'm not a pro player, but I have a workmanlike process to build block chord melodies that I'm happy to share: I start from a lead sheet that shows chords over the melody, most often the Hal Leonard Real Book s...

Homegrown - New Old Neil Young

Neil Young remastered and released an album today that he recorded in between Harvest and Tonight's the Night but never released. I'm getting misty hearing new-to-me Ben Keith on that old Emmons.

I've always had a lot of difficulty finding comfortable fingerpicks. After a bad injury to my right index finger a couple of years ago (I can't lift a beer keg and move it carefully anymore, but I can sure swing them around), the nail came back all wonky and I finally sought medical attention. The d...
