That course opened the door for me on C6 many years ago. Tunes like "Hold It," "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy," "The Preacher," etc. were laid out in simple (although some I still struggle with) but hip arrangements.

Mr. Franklin, Thanks for all you've done for the steel guitar community and for building the Cadillac of the steel guitars. Also, the Pedalbro is still discussed reverentially here on the Forum. I know that local legend Bobby Black (who is similar in age to you), was very proud of his Franklin. Happ...

Well it's been 13 years since my original post. The cases are still working fine. The main case has some fraying from much wear, but will probably go another 13 years. Good to hear that Kevin is still making these cases. I haven't seen any posts from him and feared the worst. I still strongly recomm...

Local writer, Joel Selvin, is coming out with a book about Jim. He's told me some amazing stories already. He was never crazy when he was playing, but the voices came when he wasn't.

This is a bit off the topic of why non-country producers add a steel guitar. However, this link shows steel guitarists from around the globe, who often insert the steel into their countries music. For example, Demola Adepoju from Nigeria. http://vinylbeat.com/album-44-SteelGuitarAroundGlobe.html Tak...

Hey Ron Hogan,

Is it really the same licks? The one you posted sounds like octave pull-offs, but without slowing it down, I'm pretty clueless on the one I posted. Seems more difficult.

Thanks for chiming in. Hope you're doing well. Yup that's the sound. He even has an arpeggiated solo!

On careful listening, it also sounds like a tenor banjo playing rhythm, or if not, a muted guitar doing a "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter" part.

I'm unaware of that ever being a thing in Nashville.??

Re: Webb Amp For Sale $800 SOLD

Hi Everyone, This is an original Webb 6-14E Steel Guitar amp, serial #703. I have a few Webbs. This one plays perfectly, and hasn't been played "out" in many years. It has a Peavy Black Widow 15" speaker, which is what many of us prefered with Webb amps back in the day. I don't remem...

For my money, the master was Lew Houston with Conway. Jimmie Crawford, Hal Rugg and Weldon could do it great, but it wasn't part of their style, like it was with Lew. I've kinda known b0b since the '70's. I say kinda because I'm not sure anyone outside his family really knew him. He was a very private person, even though he created this amazing communication center. What a wonderful niche in the Steel Guitar World that he made for himself, and even more for us. H...

Back in the 20th Century I published many editions of "The International Steel Guitar Discography" It was a book that attempted to list every steel guitar instrumental performance known to man... The last one (red cover) was in 1997. Included was a section that listed every "notable&q...

Hey Bill,

You are correct in that when you're reading, you'll be thinking open or closed positions primarily. But not so when you're improvising. Also, I mentioned 5-6 positions for middle C, but really with pedals, it's probably double that amount.

Theory. The same reason that it's so hard to read music on the steel, makes it probably the hardest instrument to master. And that is, on piano there's only one middle C, on violin maybe two, on the pedal steel 5 or 6, and so forth. So just finding and mastering all the positions makes the theory di...
