As a lover of the old stud/wrap around tails, that's what I would suggest as a 2nd to the more involved strings thru the body mod. Good luck! This is the one I was thinking of. It's a Schaller: http://www.stewmac.com/product_images/1lg/0198/Schaller_BridgeTailpiece_Detail.jpg It's not wraparound, b...

I prefer the last year's version where the bridge cover is not part of the pots mount. Still gotta remove the cover for string changes, though. Here's a couple of shots of the GFS pickup I installed: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0808/6905_Rondo_Pickupweb_1.jpg http://bb.steelguitarforum.com...

[quote="Bob Borzelleri Mark... Now that I have played both my Industrial with the GFS Mean 90 (very P90 like) and the SX with the GFS Lipstick, it has become clear to me that the apparently hotter lipstick has overtones that the Mean 90 does not produce. In a sense, it's nice to have the tonal...

You're welcome... whatever I can do to save you from going to G-Center on a Saturday. Dave, you and I are on the same wavelength - I am also leaving one SX alone except for the bridge (which really isn't a mod) and doing changes on one only. My plan for #1 is to route the top for a P90 and larger p...

Bill... I have two pieces to work with. The body will be a slab that came from a cutoff piece I found in the fabricator's shop. It is 1.5" thick. It comes in a nice merlot color. I also have a cutout from our kitchen sink. It is 1" x 20" x 29" and black. I'm thinking about using ...

How about newspaper? I'm about to begin a project using a counter top material that is made from paper and resin scrunched together at about a billion PSI (or so). We used it (Richlite) for our kitchen counters and I had a cutout from the kitchen sink that's been laying around for a few years so, it...

I think you have honed in on the problem. I've never seen the cover off an E-66, but it might be a good guess that you have moved the strings off the poles.

Maybe a rail is in order. :)

Very cool Bob, glad it worked out for you. So in both cases you liked the GFS better than what came with the guitar. Doesn't say much for the OEM pup's that came with the guitars that an inexpensive replacement sounds better. Makes me wonder how the GFS pup's sound compared to a more expensive lips...

Mean 90 on my Fouke (not as snappy as Lipstick on my Rondo)

But certainly not ambiguous. On second thought, maybe the title is ambiguous. I meant to say the title is not as snappy as "Lipstick on my Rondo". The Mean 90 is quite snappy, thank you. So my wife got me one of Chris Fouke's Industrial lap steels that Mark Van Allen has made up with dobro...

I've avoided the "fingerless gloves" that aren't really fingerless. Most cover up to and beyond the first finger joint and that gets in the way for me. These things (Handeze) have been on and off my hands for about 4 years now (they look pretty ragged by now and they could probably use a w...

Looks good. Are the studs grooved so that you can raise/lower the bridge? I would need a bit of elevation to get over the Lipstick PU.

OK, I just replaced the 500K pots with 250K Alphas. The tone is under better control in the high range (lows sound clearer too, but that might be my imagination). Anyone going to Guitar Center to get these pots will find that the secondary shaft (the outer one) is too big for the holes in the SX. If...

Dave, you can find the GFS pickups here http://store.guitarfetish.com/pickups.html They also sell pots and caps, but I don't think they have mini's. Is there enough room in the cavity for a regular sized pot? Tom... Only after a bit of router work (maybe a chisel). I am gonna stick with the mini's ...

Bob, if the high end is too extreme, a 250k pot will indeed help a bit - but you could also try experimenting with "load capacitors" (I hope that's what they are called in English...) - try a wiring a small value capacitor between the two outside lugs of the volume pot, that will bring th...

Bob, Looks really cool and seems to sound pretty good too. Les... If what you are looking for is a good book on theory that most folks can resist sticking in a drawer somewhere and forgetting about, then I might suggest "Edly's Music Theory for Practical People, 2nd edition" by Ed Roseman. It's a bit lighthearted with pictures and charts and such....
