Al Risbeck

Al was a buddy of mine the last 10 years or so. When we'd play together he'd always let me pick on his push-pull Emmons. Last year when I saw him, he'd sold off the push pulls and bought two single neck Mullen guitars and was really having difficulty breathing. What a guy. We'll miss him.

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" is sad, no doubt, but no Jones song tears at me like "These Days I Barely Get By". From that sad, dragging fiddle intro to the last note, where George really wails..."Oh these days, I barely get by..." It's just devastating.

I knew this was coming, but it doesn't make it any easier. You (Duane) and Bob introduced me to the steel guitar close to 25 years ago. It was always wonderful just to sit and listen to Bob play and know what was possible with the steel guitar. I'm really going to miss him, but know he's in a better...

Amazing to read today that he served 47 years in the Senate...a year longer than his brother John lived. RIP.

Hey Larry...basically it's open with a few set things. LaNise Kirk and the band (Jeff's last employer) will be there and I'm sure they'll be doing some things and will run sound. Other than that, we have a gospel music group coming from Louisiana, and I'm sure they'll do their own thing...after that...

JEFF JAM--June 7, 2:00 p.m., Clarksville, Missouri

Hey Guys, just wanted to let everyone know that we will hold the first annual "Jeff Jam" on June 7, 2009 starting at 2:00 p.m. at the Appleshed in Clarksville, Missouri. Jeff, as some of you know, passed away from liver failure on March 20. June 7 would have been his 43rd birthday and we d...

Tom's equally as humble. In 2003 I went to the Convention at St. Louis and met Tom and told him about my (then) seven year old son who thought Buck Owens and the Buckaroos were the hottest thing ever. Tom smiled that smile and said "Well, you tell him I said Hi!" Neither my son nor I will ...

More years ago than I care to recall, I was using a little flight case for three effects racks and was packing up one night. I slammed the lid down and suddenly realized my forearm was still in the way. YOWCH! Still have the scar from that little escapade. I'm just glad there weren't too many people...

Arch.
At least two of the "old farts" were Ray and Carrie Cash, John R.'s mom and dad! (It was a Cash Christmas Special, after all.) :)

Part of the reason Duane's steels always look sooo good is that he personally cleans and polishes them before they ever hit the floor. Lots of hard work and not a lot of return, but Duane is the guy to do business with, for sure!!!
