The integrated pickup and bridge assembly look a whole lot like the Holiday non pedal steel guitars that were made in Winchester. Wonder if there might be some connection there. Dave I think there is a connection. Pretty sure the partner of my friend Ray was the guy building the Holiday guitars. Ma...

All the cast metal parts and the pickup were probably made by a guy named Ray Krick from Rochester, IN. He had partnered with someone who built these. I think he originally came from around Muncie, IN, and the Pierce guitars were made around there, maybe Winchester? Ray was a non-pedal guy who playe...

Loafer Pad For Super Pro
A friend of mine has a 1978 Super Pro and wants to make it an SD-10.
Anyone out there make an appropriate pad to replace the C neck?
Thanks for any leads.

The Pickup
Can you post a picture of the pickup? I'm in the market to change the sound of my T-8 Remington. It has George L 10-1 humbuckers. I wonder what the difference would be in the midrange of the guitar. I think the pickup placement has a very different set of overtones, or something, and I know Herb wan...

The first thing I'd probably try if I were staying with an E on the first string is L-H: G Bb C E G A C E You could tune to an A on the 7th string. I might just put that on a guitar to try it against my ongoing decision about E13 versions, and A6. Maybe it would sit nice with E13. Haha, I'll never d...

A Blast From The Past
I just watched this video and it reminded me of this thread.
Here's a guy using a flat bar. The tone and touch are undeniable...Don Helms on a cabinet-end Sho~Bud.

Old Supro Lap, Bad Pickup
I have an old Supro. It's cosmetically decent, a little crusty. That doesn't bother me. The pickup is totally broken. The wires going to the coils are gone. What would you do with this? Does anyone rebuild this type of pickup? Thanks for any info you can share. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpi...

Could be a lube issue, but that's not likely. Also, check the string gauge. (Using a slightly heavier string could fix the problem.) Did you make sure there was slack in the pedal train? If there isn't slack somewhere , any up-tuning will cause over-tuning. Have him check the fingers to make sure t...

Maybe Overtuning?
I have done a fair amount of searching about this without finding an answer. Tomorrow I am going out to a friend's house to look at his 1978 Sho~Bud SuperPro. It has suddenly developed an overtuning problem. Only the 5th string. It has worked fine with no overtuning issues until now. I went out last...

WTB Carter Pedal and Pedal Rod
I'm looking for an unpolished single Carter pedal and standard length pedal rod. It's for a 1999 pro model.
I can contact Al Brisco, just seeing if there's a pedal and rod in someone's pile they don't need, first.

1999 Carter SD-10 SOLD, CAN BE CLOSED, DONATION SENT
I have a Carter SD-10 to sell. I bought this guitar in 2001, from Ann Fabian, used. It was a trade in from some pro player in Texas. He played it two years and bought a new one from Carter. I played it a couple years and sold it to a local guy to buy a Carter D-10. The buyer sold it back to me the o...

I wrote out a chart on a poster board and had all the notes labeled. Then I looked at it a lot, watching for patterns of notes. I was learning to spell chords at the same time. After that, I started thinking about the notes changing because of the pedals. I don't claim this was the best way, but it ...

How attached to your D string are you? Most universals put the B as the 9th string and have a G# on 10, E on 11 and B on 12. The 9th string gets pulled up to D. I have considered doing a universal-like tuning on a 10 string. I'd have 4 knees and 5 pedals. ABC pedals and the 5th and 6th pedals of the...

I took my information about the LPB-1 from a thread discussing the album. John Macy says he was an eye witness to the pedals being two LPB-1 cascaded. It's a huge tone! I use a Wampler Velvet Fuzz, but I am probably going to try a pair of those for the sake of experimentation. https://bb.steelguitar...

His manner of playing really reminds me of Sacred Steel. It's a vocal-like way of using the bar. Check out this video, you can skip to 1:45 to hear a real master of the style. This is done with sustain from the bar, but also volume pedals. This is just his hands, I think. https://www.youtube.com/wat...
