Thanks Jerry. Sleepwalk is my first attempt at a complete TAB. New to the PSG, my goal is to learn the fretboard quickly so I can use sheet music instead of TAB; I think writing TAB will help me in that regard. Composing and arranging for the PSG, which I have done for keyboards, also helps me under...

Large knuckle? Did you mean to say that? My picks (Newman JF and National NP1 and NP2) only go as far as the base of my cuticle - maybe a tad beyond - but nowhere near the knuckle. I'm new to PSG and my first set of picks were the Dunlop. I had a problem of catching the forward string in that upturn...

Hi Sherman,

I'm going to snoop around the Internet and Microsoft to see if anyone has fonts or symbols that can be plugged into Excel. I looked through Excel's symbols (Insert -> Symbols) but nothing looked too useful. I'll let you know if I find anything that shows promise.

I just purchased an S-10DB and accessory pack from Carter. The pack contained the Goodrich pedal - for me, the L-120 to suit my height and seating position.

The piano is, indeed, played with the forearms parallel to the floor. This position facilitates range of motion, dexterity, speed, and comfort. I suggest that the same applies to the PSG. A few weeks ago, I decided to add the PSG to my keyboard repertoire. I purchased an S-10DB from Carter who, as a...

I think there are two ways to present a piece of music: the way the composer intended and wrote it (if that is know) and the way it sounds best to you, in your circumstance, on your instrument, with your accompaniment, band, or orchestra. This way of doing business is especially evidenced in classic...

Sherman, what, if anything, have you tried to indicate time? I am new to TAB and when I see, e.g., a fret notation in the middle of a 4/4 measure I don't know if the note is a half-note or a quarter-note with a quarter-rest on the last beat. Eighth-notes or accidentals create a greater challenge for...

I have received many requests for the Excel template, which I am continually upgrading - and will continue to do so. Since I have never used TABs, your input aids my learning process. I will automatically send out updates and other suggestions I receive until you scream Uncle! NOTE: TELL ME THE NUMB...

Excel TAB

If anyone is interested, post or email me and I will send you as an attachment two Excel 10-string TABs I created: one a template (16 bars on a page), the other for "Sleepwalk" so you can see what it looks like. You can then print it out and fill in your notation, or use Excel to fill it i...

Hey Gary, you ever have one of those DUH moments. I've DL'ed or printed tabs, often finding that they were rendered in 6-point font, far beyond the reach of my eye-to-music stand distance. Spent a bit of time searching the Web for software. And then you come along and say EXCEL!! Now I have 14-point...

Great photos Greg: makes sense of my tortured effort to describe those pyramid cones at the corners. Dave, I’m with Greg all the way: don’t agonize. Given that Peavey ships in their cardboard boxes via UPS certainly urges the conclusion that Peavey has not had problems doing so. Same for Carter who ...

Peavey just shipped me NV112 by UPS. It was packed in a standard 48lbs edge crush, 100lbs weight limit cardboard box with no special strapping tape. Inside, the amp was supported at each corner by hard, molded, cardboard pyramid-shaped supports (the corners of the supports fit into the corners of th...

If you have no pedal steel experience I cannot recommend Jeff Newman’s (Jeffran College) “Right Hand Alpha” (one hour DVD) and “Pedal Steel Guitar Technique” (two hour DVD) and “Rhythm Tracks” (CD covering both DVDs) highly enough. Although not specifically noted on their site (www.jeffran.com), the...

Mark,

I had a CS for two weeks. Then bought a Carter SD-10 with a GL EON PU. I would say get the most guitar you can afford and whose sound you like best at the outset. You'll outgrow the starters quickly and the pro models hold their value well in the event you decide to give it up.

Billy,

I have not heard the PF-II which GL describes as a "full-bodied pickup." I like the highs of an E-66 and the lows of the 10-1, which is why I use the E-on. My guess is that the PF-II at 20 ohms is going to be quite full with weak (for my taste) highs.

Thomas, The question I have is what do YOU mean when you say 'will be better?" Suppose you are playing fills and riffs in a smoke-filled dance hall: does the audience appreciate good, better, best as far as the instrument is concerned? I doubt it. Does a Fessie sound better than a Carter? If it...
