tuning by chords

I tune the chord to themselves: B6, C#m, C#ma, Dma11. Starting with the B at +1 hz sharp of ET, you end up with A at 440 hz.

Hendrix

I read the last interview Jimi did before he died, and he said he was interested in pedal steel, but hadn't had the time to study, being marketed as he was. His image was fabricated by the record co. 8)

I call it my SRV chord, but I guess it's the same; try 10,8,6,and 2 with B pedal down and 2 and 8 lowered 1/2 tone. I like it on fret 4, since Jimi and Stevie both tuned in Eb. 8)

tuning

Hans, The tuning thing is a real can of worms. A steel player has got to develop his sense of relative pitch. Tune your E (on E9) 1/2hz sharp to the tuner and tune your open major chords (by ear)in order: B, C#, Dma7 and A7. The A should end up at 440. Winnie Winston's harmonic tuning method should ...

who's listening

Thanks for "chiming in", Paul. Yeah, I was just thinking about how steel has a ready market in the traditional country ensembles; but there are obviously fewer or those than there used to be. I love the old western swing standards, but that's mostly heard and appreciated at steel guitar co...

steel guitar music

I was captured by the "Hit Sounds" album by Lloyd Green. I found it in a cut-out bin in the late sixties. He made me believe that steel is the baddest tone machine of all time. And I still believe it. It is the real soul music. So what if Hollywood thinks we're trash? Not being part of her...

Shelburne Falls

It's nice to hear somebody's trying to bring steel to that part of the country. I played that area years ago with Mark Snow. My neice is engaged to a guy from Shelburne. Do you have any honky tonks around there now? I played at Alan's Bar-B-Que on Rt. 2 in Gill back in 1972 with Red Sweeney. I was o...

It seems to me that if you could work in a low third on the bottom, you'd have F#-A-C-E; a D9th chord, shared by both C6 and A6 copedants. Plus, your third string would be usable for non-country applications. I'm still playing E9th Nashville, though.
