Maybe this wil help.
You know the chord sequence G-Em-C-D?
It a very standard progression.
In numbers it is I-VI-IV-V.
So when you hit the A pedal, you've got a
VI chord on that position.
Thus 3rd fret, G -> Em
5th fret, A -> F#m
8th fret, C -> Am
10th fret, D -> Bm

I'm also very new at PSG, and while I like instrumentals I also tend to go for the PSG backings and fills on Songs. Just recently got more into Country so just a small personal list that got me started. My list: Dire Straits - On the night (Paul Franklin) I attended that concert, changed me from a M...

Thanks for all the good advise. I got a very long and detailed email from Nic du Toit, so I'm going to try it out. As I read it, the pickingfingers are my problem. The fingers aren't bend enough to get my palm closer to the strings. It seems very logical. I just picked like a guitarist (old habbit)....

Thanks for the tips and compliments. All I did was trying to copy the original pedalsteel lines on the recording. I had to re-adjust my playing on the guitar as well. Country music has a whole different timing and scale usage than the other styles I play. I couldn't find a lot of songbooks for pedal...

Thank you for your kind replies. I'm studying the Bruce Bouton Pedal Steel Guitar DVD. Great material to begin with I think, he also shows pickblocking and palmblocking. But he says that the hand must make small movements if you want to get faster. When I pick and block the movement is too large. I ...

Hello, Just joined the forum after reading for sometime. I bought a Carter Starter in september 2005 because I've been listning to country a lot lately. Before that I was more into rock and playing rockguitar. Then I discovered Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Redd Volkaert etc. great guitarists. The more ...
