Oh, I agree in general. It's just that I did find a use for this instrument and it works well in a limited way.

I bought a BR9 for $25 back when they were considered garage sale junk (some might argue that they still are). It has the shortcomings the Stefan describes. However, I found that for rock and blues, the thing really kicks butt. The distortion doesn't matter and in fact can actually be an asset. When...

I swear by Dr. Duck's resonator guitar sets. Best nickel sets that I have found (at least for me). You can find good deals on 6 set lots on ebay.

I just checked, and at least "To You Sweetheart Aloha" is available from Amazon as mp3 download. I'll have to grab this when I get home.

I think that this one-off performance was just for having a bit of fun. They only did it the one time in Texas. Probably just ran through it once or twice at soundcheck before the show.

I didn't mean to say that it should be called a D6 tuning, I was just refering to how I was using it in one instance. It can be used to deliver a very nice 6th tuning sound.

I like to think of the tuning that Brad mentions as a sort of D6 tuning (minus the 'A'). I learned it from Tut Taylor, who showed me how he uses it to play Wabash Blues in D.

The cones in 70's Dobros definitely leave something to be desired. Replacing it with an upgrade should help considerably. My old tricone had the cones replaced in the 70's before I owned it. I recently replaced them with new National cones and it made quite an improvement. I would see if they have a...

There are indeed 2 steelers on this record, one pedal and one nonpedal. I can't recall their names and my records are packed for moving. By the way, the Travis style guitar is played by Merle himself.

He uses it as a music stand to hold his lyric sheets. Donnie Herron of BR549 is playing steel with him now, but I think that he has been doing this since before Donnie joined him. By the way, anyone with access to XM radio should check out his "Theme Time Radio Hour". He proves to be an ex...

I use the E.G. Smith bar. All of my other contoured bars have been sitting idle since I got it. I got mine from Jim Heffernan's web site. I switch off between it and a bullet bar for dobro. For me it is the easiest bar to hold and manage of any that I've tried.

My first was a "Trick Brothers Special" (appears to be a Magnatone Varsity under another name). I bought it from a friend who had found it at a garage sale for $10. I still have it. I have even used it on a recording session.

If you want to go lighter, I would not use the Uncle Josh set since they are pretty heavy. Of course you would also be switching to nickel from bronze and going to an unwound 3rd string. I have tried these strings and like them, but then I am partial to an unwound 3rd and nickel plating.
