I have an original Emmons course by Herby Wallace that I acquired in 1972 or 1973. It's complete with an LP back-up record. Wildwood Flower, Bud's Bounce, Another Bridge to Burn, Born to Lose and others. It's good stuff and helped the learning curve tremendously.

ISGC highlights for me

Here are a few of my highlights of a great convention: Sarah Jory's two sets and her performance in the Peavey room. Al Brisco's set especially "Ralph's Reel" and the monster band that accompanied him. Steve Patico's guitar playing with Al Brisco on stage and Tommy Dodd in the Peavey room....

Bought my Maverick brand new in 1973 from a music store in southern Indiana. Found an instruction course written by Hery Wallace complete with a play-a-long record. The Maverick ended up under the bed through college and a couple of career transfers. Pulled it out after attending my first Scotty's c...

I recently visited some of my musician friends in California and they were all talking about the CD and singing the songs at a jam. Great harmony opportunities so I bought it when I got back to Minnesota. I think its great. I liked the Glen Campbell/Teri Clark cut the best.

Jim Murphy

I saw Jim Murphy with Asleep at the Wheel last night in San Antonio. I spoke with him after the performance and enjoyed meeting him. He's back after 3 months of chemotherapy for lymphoma. No hair-no beard but plenty of steel guitar and dynamite saxophone. His triple neck Bethel sounded great as did ...

Mike played Midnight in Old Amarillo at our request a few years back. The MC read the request and said "I guess we've got a steel player in the crowd tonight". Mike did a great job and the crowd loved it.

Trouble with Boss DD3 pedal

I bought a DD3 pedal some time ago along with the AC adapter. After about two uses the light remained on but no delay. I sent it in twice for warranty service and they sent it back saying "use a battery maybe your adapter is bad". Sure enough delay worked with the battery. So I bought anot...

Our local classic country station has been celebrating Merle's birthday all day by playing three in a row every hour. We've heard some good cuts today, Happy Birthday Merle!

I was impressed on reading the liner notes. Alan paid tribute to the musicians, mentioning Lloyd Green's original solo on Farewell Party as one of the greatest. He also said that Once You've Had the Best has one of his favorite steel intros. The guy sings it well 'cause he loves it.

WE've got a great Classic Country station here in central Minnesota, KVAL. They play some great stuff and based on the reaction they've had for the yera they've been on the air, there's quite a few of us listening.
