I have one like that, a 1954 Grand Console. Mine is not in as good of shape. I paid around $400 for mine. It needed tuner buttons, but I replaced them with repro tuners with metal buttons. It needed a switch tip and rubber feet for the legs as well. I would ask for pictures of the underside of the g...

The Stew-Mac method is good. Sure there's 24 tuners, but you only have to clean 'em every 25 years or so!

The astonishing Chicago Store! On Sixth, right in the heart of downtown Tucson....the most voluminously eccentric music store in all the world . . . since 1919 . . . at least! If you find it there — and you might —  they'll ask for more than it's worth. And then you just kind of refuse to leav...

How do you get to the volume pot on those? I have a '47 that could use a new one.

Did you measure the old pot with a meter? Even frozen it should give a clue, I'd think.

I recently picked up a DigiTech RP 360 which is a modeling thing. It has 99 presets and 99 user slots. I got it to use through my computer speakers for practice, but I've started gigging with it. It has a headphone out as well. I found mine for around $125.00. I'm really impressed with the quality o...

I just have one lap steel, but I have a double neck console. I had a few at one time, but I kept the one I played the most. I wish I'd kept a couple of them.

I use finger picks on anything that sits on my lap or is horizontal. I do hybrid picking (pick and two fingers) on underarm guitar. That's what feels most natural for me.

Sounds good, Doug. I'm saving up for a Nunaber Immersive Reverb MK 2 for a pedal 'verb for ambient stuff. EH just released a pedal called the Attack Decay that does reverse sounds and has a built in fuzz. They keep coming up with interesting and out of the ordinary pedals. You might want to check it...

I just wired up two cables with the screw on connector. One six foot the other ten. Plenty long enough to get from the output to the volume pedal, or the amp in a small room. We got a bunch of snow today and more coming in tomorrow. I know where I'll be spending time for the next few days. I hope th...

I missed the free offer, but I've heard quite a few tracks on the jazz show on KRFC-FM here in Fort Collins, CO. It's on my list of steel guitar recordings to pick up.

I just got mine home from the bass player's house today! I sat at it for about an hour playing it acoustically and letting the strings get used to my music room. I know I'm going to be spending a lot of time up there with it. I've owned it for a few years now and I'm really happy to have it up and r...

Depending on which or if I use a pedal board I use one of several VP's. My favorite is a '70's DeArmond that I loaned to the pedal steel player in my band and he likes it so much he hasn't given it back yet. Two of my pedalboards have VP's. One is an old Ernie Ball that I had modified to have a tune...

That's great. I'm an amputee (left leg) myself and it's good to see folks finding solutions for problems like this. I have both arms and hands, so I feel pretty blessed that I can still play. Pedal steel is out, however, but that's OK, I never wanted to play one. :)
