I remember John and I had a few conversations. He was involved with Performance guitars, and knew and worked with Neil Zaza, a guitar virtuoso from the Cleveland area. RIP John.

He was at the forefront of the “urban cowboy” movement during my formative years. From Countrypolitan to pure Honkytonk, he could do it all. I really liked his vocal stylings. I saw him when He and Johnny Lee were touring together on the fair circuit, and both put on a great show. I wish I could’ve ...

I'm actually one of the new steel players Marc Jenkins mentioned from his November show. I do production and play in a few bands and my last 3 projects have been super enthusiastic about using Lap or Pedal steel. Of course no one is really doing country stuff, and one young folk artist didn't know ...

The Deltalite is an 8 ohm speaker vs the stock 4 ohm. Maybe a 3db volume loss. The eminence is a more efficient speaker than the stock, so the volume loss may not be perceivable…YMMV. Ken Fox explained this better in a forum post a few years ago.

Think about this for a moment. I have my father’s business receipts from when he owned his own semi’s in the mid 60’s. A flat tire repair on a trailer cost him $2.50 . You can’t even buy a valve stem cap for that price these days!

It's rough reading the gone home section anymore. Mike was an inspiration to say the least. His passing really brings home the lyric "who's gonna fill their shoes".

COVID is partially to blame. I work in the shipping business. It’s really been a tough time. People have been forced to shop from home. The whole business model for suppliers and consumers has basically changed, maybe forever, due to the pandemic. Now that it looks like we may see the light at the...

Well Dustin, I sent you post to Hartley Peavey and got a reply last night. Here ya go! "Bill, Many thanks for forwarding this to me!!!....Back in the late 80’s tube production in the USA has been stopped several years earlier and all tube production (for Guitar amps) was coming from Eastern ...

It was my main amp three nights a week for a couple of years. Just hometown honky tonk stuff but it made me quite a bit of spending money! Not one patron ever came up to me and mentioned that I didn't have a good tube sound........ In the end, isn’t that what it’s really all about ? 2 for 1 cus...

Look, I love Peavey ss amps as much as anyone, they have been part of my gear list on and off since they first came out. However comparing a Bandit to a good Fender Princeton???.. You guys must have the wrong Princeton amps. The Bandit 65 is a good amp, and is certainly a lot louder than a Princeto...

Yeah Erv, I’ve always liked the NV400 for steel. I just dismissed their ss offerings. I think I just got caught up in the “only tube amps are worthy” mentality for a while. I just couldn’t believe how good the bandit sounded in a blind test. Just blew me away.

My Apologies To Hartley Peavey

When I started playing guitar in the 1980’s, I used a lot of so so solid state amps, even a rack mount guitar amp, until I got into tube snobbery. I never looked back, until now. I was pretty impressed by the sound of the fender tone master but that thing has a steep price tag. Recently I came acr...

This is the reason I don’t buy vintage collector guitars. I’m always modifying guitars to my specs. Collector guitars take a massive hit when you start replacing things on them.

"What is the epoxy for?" It is so you don't have to buff any aluminum and can get on with the business of trying to make a living building these things. GFI is the sales leader so apparently everyone doesn't need to have things shiny. I agree with Doug. I’ve never owned a gfi, but I’v...

Well,MSA was and still is the Rolls-Royce of steel guitars. Custom built from key head to bridge. It takes a while to get a Rolls,as they are still mostly hand crafted.Chevy’s are ubiquitous and can be bought in every downtown in the USA. There are plenty of Chevy type steel guitars out there, but...

True, Dustin. But as Jeff says, he apparently rarely plays it live. It may be in the “failed experiment” lab, or still a work in progress. It’s a brilliant idea. Just a PITA to play. Well, we can bloviate all we want. We’re all nit-picky musician types. Junior is a great musician as we all ...
