Here we are... three years later and a new wrinkle has developed in the revisionism of Ritchie Valens & Sleep Walk. Recent commenters on my YT channel have claimed that they were listening to Sleep Walk on the radio in 1959 when they heard news of the plane crash that killed Ritchie Valens and ...

My 22.5” scale Stringmaster sounds better than the 24.5” Stringmaster I used to play. The sound is much richer.

WTB Deluxe34 universal stand

Deluxe34 went out of business, and Asher doesn’t appear to be selling the Deluxe 34 stands except with their own steels.

So I’m looking for a universal stand that can fit a Weissenborn and/or Ric Model 59 (same size as a panda), hopefully at a price a working musician can afford. Any leads?

Hi guys, I’m on strong advocate for 11th tunings for Jazz is involved. And especially with Vintage/Gypsyjazz. (I’m personally in A11 right now because I like having a G triad on top.) The reason for this is that you have straight bar major and minor six cords along with dominant sounds, and even mi...

I listened to the soundtrack from The Sting a lot in my youth, and Solace was one of my favorite cuts. Does anybody have an arrangement for lap steel?

Miss Rose, your version is inspiring me to work on this song again. You have some really neat ideas on that bridge section.

I have A11 on my soloing (upper neck), which is also open G on the top few strings

Santo’s C#m7 on the rhythm (lower, close) neck, which is a lot like E13

I’m always looking at either live performance or recording for my steel pieces. I play my Stringmaster on about 50% of our live material, with several performances per month. I’m always thinking about how to play for maximum audience enjoyment.

My Weissenborn style Luna is always handy, so I tend to grab it. No need to mess with an amp or anything. For live work, it’s probably the Weissy 60%, and late 30’s Ricky Model 59 about 40% of the time. Oddly enough, on our new album coming out in October, it’s the Ricky on 60% and the Weissy...

If I ever found an ugly old BR9 husk, I’d paint it goldtop gold with cream hardware. I don’t like the ones with the plastic cover on the bridge, but the little ES295 flower decal would have to be on there somewhere.

I had a similar problem when my arthritis started to set in. Man, this getting old thing stinks!

I went from a Dunlop bar to a much lighter Ezzee Slide from our buddy Basil, and it was much more manageable. Now I can’t stand the sound of the steel bar in favor of the Ezzee Slide.

We use IReal all the time, for practicing, for charts, and even recording. The rhythm expansion packs help with the variety. Can it do a real Jazz Manouche pompe? No, but I’ve played with a lot of GJ players, and everybody’s personal pompe is a little different. I like some of the Latin beats. I usu...

I found this solid top mahogany Luna around 2018. I put a K&K pickup in and I’ve made several records with it. Would that be the three disc type K+K that goes on the sound board? Not an under-saddle type? I can’t remember if they are two discs or three discs, but yes, not the under saddle type....

I found this solid top mahogany Luna around 2018. I put a K&K pickup in and I’ve made several records with it. I don’t think I have $500 in it, even with the modifications. It’s a great instrument. Here’s a little garage recording I did with it (mix of pickup and mic). It ended up on the next al...
