I visited Nashville a couple years ago with my wife. The Country Music Hall of Fame is definitely worth a trip if you've got the time. It wasn't high on our list initially but the museum was great.

Also, Hatch Show Print on Broadway is cool for gig posters.

I attended this event last night with my wife and it was a great time. I'm new to Pedal Steel, have owned one for a while but it's been sitting unused, and recently decided it was time to dust it off and put in some seat time. I posted another thread looking for players in Milwaukee and Jim invited ...

Thanks. Do you know the name of his band?

I'm originally from Minneapolis and my parents still live there so I pass through Tomah when I go to visit them. Haven't ever stopped there except for the Denny's off the freeway though.

Pedal Steel players in Milwaukee, WI

Any one know of any pedal steel players in Milwaukee or the surrounding area? It'd be great if I could find someone to take some lessons from but I'd even settle for just being able to see someone play out occassionally.

Pedal Steel Lessons in Milwaukee

I recently moved to Milwaukee and am wondering if any of you can point me in the direction of a good Pedal Steel teacher in the area.

I live on the west side of the city, near Timmerman Airport but would be willing to drive a bit for the right situation.

Thanks!

I just ordered a Nashville 112 today from Steel Guitar Nashville. It's a cool looking burgandy color. I'm very excited to get it. I'm relatively new to steel guitar and have been playing through my guitar practice amp which leaves a lot to be desired. The Nashville 112 should be about 1000 times bet...

Hi Gary, I saw you play with Dierks on the ACM awards this month. I thought it was one of the best performances of the night. In another thread about that show, and awards shows in general, it was mentioned that most bands don't play live and record their track in a studio prior to the show. Did you...

LOL! That's funny, Jim. Actually, when I first got them and was trying them out they felt extra strange and they were impossibly clumsy. Then I put in the Jeff Newman video and realized I had them on backwards. D'oh! So, I'm wearing them correctly now. They're still clunky and hard to get used to bu...

Thanks for all the tips guys. I spent a lot of time this past weekend practicing and wearing the picks around the house. I'm already starting to get more used to them. Currently, all I have are the National picks which are fairly bulky. I think I'm still going to try out a bunch of different varieti...

Getting used to Finger Picks?

I just recently started playing Pedal Steel after being a guitar player for 15 years. I studied classical guitar for a few years in college, so I'm used to using my fingers to play. However, I'm having a really hard time adjusting to using the metal finger picks. They feel so clunky on my hands and ...

Stupid Question - Sho-bud volume pedal

I know this is kind of elementary, but I have an old Sho-bud volume pedal and I forget how I'm supposed to hook it up.

There's just the two jacks on the right side of the pedal. Does the cord from the guitar go in the top or bottom hole?

It seems to kind of work both ways, which is right?

Thanks for the responses guys, gives me some amps to look around for. One of my major limitations in trying out amps is that I live right in the city and don't have a car, so I can't really cart my pedal steel around town to different shops to A/B it with different amps, etc. So, I'll basically have...

Pedal Steel/Guitar Amps

Do any of you have one amp that you use for both Pedal steel and 6 string guitar? I just got my first pedal steel a while ago and don't have a very good practice amp for it. I've been using my tiny little 15W Fender Bronco that I've got for my guitar, but obviously it's lacking. I don't play in any ...

They have a link in each artists section where you can submit updates if you notice any missing or wrong information.

I'm not sure if they actually follow through and update based on suggestions, but the opportunity is there.

And it is a great site, I find myself using it multiple times a day.
