Steinar..I got the same ls from GB. I have recorded with it a couple of times. There was no perceivable hum in the recording and I did nothing special.

I read a fellow got a different pickup for his GB from Jason to warm it up.

I think the pickup is fine for my tastes.

GuitarMap - A free computer program for the Stee

I was lurking over on the "dark side" and found this from PSG player Karlis Abolins. Though mainly for PSG you can dump in your favorite lap steel tunings and navigate any popular "Western" chord or scale. Here is what Karlis has to say about the program, and excuse me if this is...

Yeah, don't beat 'em, join 'em. I am for the buzz. The Indians had the same problem with the original Sitar. Originally it was fairly clean sounding, they couldnt get rid of some the strings buzzing, so they made 'em all buzz. I am switching to all .010's on my lapsteel. Call me "Ravi". He...

If you want to play or learn to play bad enough, you will get a steel. Lacey is right.
Saying you want to do it and doing it are worlds apart. Most will blame not doing it on the lack of funds, but wont quibble about dropping $20k on a car. The greatest obsticle is desire, real desire.

David, It buzzes using different material in the saddles? Does it buzz in the open position without the bar on the strings? If it does, there is some feedback going to the string through the nut and or bridge, assuming all is seated well and in the saddles properly. Has anyone tried a plastic saddle...

Steiner, I think you will find the offender to be the bridge, the bridge material, how the string sits in the bridge and the tension of the strings. More thank likely going to a larger guage string will provide enough tension that when attacked hard with your fingerpicks the string will not move on ...

You shouldnt have to live with those offending overtones. Here is a test. Tighten the offending string until the squeeling goes away, if it goes away, and hopefully before the string breaks. If the overtone does go away after tightening the string, and before it breaks, the offender more than likely...

Hi Chris, This is good stuff. The tone is just different on the MSA. Just as in fashion, that sound may not be in now. The tele sound is hot now, but I have heard many great sounds from mellower guitars. This clears things for me. As I can make a PRS sound bright and clean, it will not be a tele, bu...

I have played music since I was 13 and the lap steel for the last year and it was time to move on, just was hoping not to have to end up trading and buying around. Thanks for your advice, Cliff
