Buddy Emmonds

Great picture Rhonda, I was playing steel for a band at KIRX Kirksville, Mo. in the mid 50's. About the time Buddy was getting his start. He was a teen then but very good. I got to meet him many times through the years, it was always a thrill.

I got my private license in 1970 and have been flying ever since. I have a Piper J-3 that I have owned for the last 30 years. Have it hangered here in Prescott, Az and fly about every week. Had a story published in the Reader's Digest in 1992 titled "The Man Who Made Me Fly." The J-3 is qu...

Thanks for all the response on Joe Byers. I have received e-mail also. I know that Joe did play in the San Diego area as my friend there, Howard Kischasey, knew him. I've also learned that he lived in the Ft. Collins area and passed away about 10 years ago. He was a great guy and master steel player...

Joe Byers

Do any of you know anything about Joe Byers? He was a great steel player back in the 50's and helped me a lot when I was a young kid just getting started. He played with Rodney Morris and used to let me set in on his triple neck Fender. I was about 15 at the time and thrilled to get to play steel be...

Bill,

I'm planning to attend. Got a call yesterday from Hal Rugg. Would like to play my guitar in case his doesn't get here. Wants a steel with the Day pedal setup. He's sure more than welcome to use mine. Will see you there.

Roy, When I was going to college in Missouri back in 1952, I got $35 per week for doing a half hour daily live radio show and a big dance on Saturday night. That was pretty good money then and gave me a comfortable living while in school. From then on, it varied from $20 to $40 per gig through the y...

Happy birthday Roy and many more to come. We just never get too old to play steel do we? I still remember the good times we had in Galesburg, comparing notes. Do you play steady now?

Day for me. My first D-10 was a Miller and it had the Day setup. I've tried the Emmons but I keep coming back to Day, it's just more natural for me. The C6th seems to be pretty standard on all steels.

Roy, Sorry I sent three replies before I realized there was a page two. I really enjoyed meeting you in those days, we both were playing triple neck Fenders I believe. I'm still playing quite a bit out here in Arizona, now have an Emmons double 10 that I got in 1980 and love it. I remember you told ...

Roy,

Are you the same guy I used to jam with in Galesburg, Illinois back in the 50's. I think you were playing steel with the Boyd Bennett band at that time.
