In 1965 I bought an 8-string Epiphone lap guitar which had been converted to a pedal steel by means of 5 levers at the nut end and 5 more at the pickup end. The levers were connected by chains (if you can imagine) to pedals mounted on 2 pieces of masonite. Most of the strings broke with a high degre...

NV112 vs NV400

I've been considering trading my NV 400 for an NV112. My number one priority is tone. Weight is not a factor. I plan to try it out, of course, but would welcome input from players familiar with both amps. Can I expect better tone from the 112, (recognizing, of course, the subjective components invol...

Finger picks

I'm surprised that no one has commented on Bobbe Seymour's latest newsletter about playing without finger picks.

My Mullen HWP D10 is 8 years old, and I like it more every year. I really believe that its tone improves with age.

Thanks to Mel for the JayBuckey link. I think we're in business now to make a fiddle player out of our grandson.

Fiddle music

Is there any instruction material available for fiddle, where there's rhythm track on tape, with and without the fiddle, plus the written music for the fiddle part. I'm thinking of something similar to Jeff Newman's Woodshed Workshop or Herby Wallace's instructional material. I have a grandson who p...

Thanks, Jerry, and others, for the tip on the Red Rajah bar. I just got one, and it works. Problem solved.

Thanks, guys. At least I'm not the only one who's had the problem. Beyond the warming and breathing on the bar it seems that the best bet is this Black Phoenix bar. How long does the coating last? How does it affect the tone? Who sells them?

Bar Control

In cold weather when it's dry indoors my hands get dry to the extent that the bar tends to feel slippery in my hand; this results in some loss of bar control. Has anyone else had this problem, and, if so, what can be done about it?
