Is there any instruction material available for fiddle, where there's rhythm track on tape, with and without the fiddle, plus the written music for the fiddle part. I'm thinking of something similar to Jeff Newman's Woodshed Workshop or Herby Wallace's instructional material.
I have a grandson who plays "violin" quite well but has never been exposed to country or bluegrass fiddle. He likes the little he's heard.
A combination tape and musical notation would be great for him.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
Here's a link to a great site for learning fiddle.
http://www.jaybuckey.com/
I have 2 books from him and have got a lot out of them so far. Complete backing tracks with the fiddle in the left channel so you can tune it out when your ready. tracks are also at slower speeds to learn the tune. Lots of standards. You can download them as a pdf or order hard copy with a CD. mp3"s come with the ebooks. he has some free stuff you can try out also.
regards, Mel

If you'd like to try something a bit different, look here:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/r2music/folk/sessions/
British Country Dance tunes, print out the score and play along with the session. Knowing these tunes, I found I could find my way around Apallachan and the slower Bluegrass tunes, so I guess it will work the other way!

Cheers!
