A few years ago I was subbing with a band on pedal steel, dobro and lap steel.
When the singer introduced me she said "That's Dave on pedal steel, dobro, and...that thing in his lap that he rubs."

Yeah, sounds great, very clean and fast but still plenty of feeling on the slides and sustained notes. And only 6 strings!

The cds are divided into individual tracks for each example, with the steel on one channel and the back up on the other.

There are 39 tracks on disc 1 and 38 on disc 2.

Hope to get to check out a Clinesmith at some point, they sure look cool and the reviews couldn't be better. Grant Green cds are a blast to play steel and dobro along with. Way more accessible to my ears and chops than Joe Pass or guys like that. I went through the same Grant Green marathon thing wh...

Definitely worth getting. I also play C6 w/high G but it was useful to see the evolution of various tunings leading into the C6, and once you get to it there is plenty on C6. It is a big investment for a book, but there is a ton of material there along with cds. My theory with books is if I buy a bo...

Great thread. Clarence had at least as big an influence on bluegrass guitar with his acoustic playing. The mostly instrumental record Appalachian Swing was a legendary out-of-print record in the 70's but it's on cd now. I read somewhere that Jesse Ed Davis' version of Statesboro Blues with Taj Mahal...

When I was learning slants I'd leave my tuner on and check often. Start with the bar in the straight position and make sure you are in tune there. Go to the slant position and check the highest string by itself. Move the bar until it is in tune, then check the lower string. Get that in tune, then go...

Wow, that's great news. I saw them at House Without A Key in early 2001 and they are both fantastic. Casey has a nice swinging touch and tons of technique, and Hiram is one of the best rhythm guitarists I've ever seen, going from nice swing chords to slack key style in an instant. Hope I can make it...

Thanks for the head's up Andy. Paul Buskirk was a great player. I love his playing on Willie's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" album and on the Herb Remington albums that Rick Alexander put on cd. He also was on an album with Shot Jackson playing a resonator tenor guitar, I think it is "...
