SuperVee Locking Strat Tremolo - no routing or drilling

Looks to me like these guys a Super-Vee came up with a great idea for a no- (or minimal-) mod Strat tremolo replacement. Just drop it in your Strat, replace your nut with theirs, and off you go. The system is based on a piece of spring steel that always returns to its original shape. http://www.supe...

I use the Electro-Harmonix Hum DeBugger. Yes, it changes the sound a bit; but in some cases that is preferable to the nasty, ugly, unmusical hum. Makes single coils usable in a bad hum environment.

I have a bass player friend who works a lot in Branson. He says everyone asks about how to get work there.

You have to be there, and have your chops up to snuff.

Just like getting a gig anywhere else.

Move to Branson. Hang out. Meet other musicians. Play with other musicians. Get gigs--if you're your preparation has readied you for those opportunities.

The music business is about 90% schmooze and 10% talent. It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Microphone placement is the essence of the "art" of sound reinforcement and recording. There is no "one size fits all" spot for mic placement. It's a matter of context. In the earlier days of microphones, there was no EQ, compressor, etc. Your primary means of tone control was mi...

I had a SD Twin Tube Classic for a while. Got rid of it. The distortion was too "smooth" for me. It sounded electronic, too perfect, not natural, to my ear. I'm wondering whether the newer SD Twin-Tube Blue will be more to my liking. I do like the idea of being able to switch between two l...

SWR Workingman's 15 doesn't hold a candle to the Basic Black. It's way too heavy, and doesn't sound as good. The LA 15 is even worse.

SWR. SWR. SWR. I have a pre-Fender SWR Basic Black, 1x15" that I use at small clubs. Light enough for one person to move, easier with two people or a hand truck. These amps go for between $200-$300. Extension cab (1x15") goes for $200-$250. No matter which bass I use, humbucker or single-c...

If you're going to use a compressor, buy a good one, a Keeley 4-knob or a DBX rack mount. A compressor of lower quality will not make you happy. And those comps you find in multi-effects devices--like Line 6, and other cheapos--pretty much suck. A good compressor can enhance your sound, if used judi...

Prices for Rickenbachers have been dropping on eBay. Six months ago, a 1935 would cost you $1800. Today, someone got an early '40s one for $550.

Tim,

I use an ElectroHarmonix Hum Debugger for suppression of single-coil hum. It DOES change the sound, but at least I can practice without that annoying hum! I probably wouldn't want to record with it, but I've used it live many times, both with steel, guitar and bass.
