I have owned quite a few steels in the past fifty or so years. I currently play an older Sierra keyless crown series uni. I love it but it is very temperature sensitive. Every time I sit down I need to tweak the open string tuning to compensate for the temperature changes - but once tuned it stays i...

Triple 8 Rickenbacker on ebay

Just a heads up. I just saw what is described as a triple 8 Rickenbacker model 518 on eBay with a buy it now price of $1250 plus shipping from Orange, Ca. I'd buy it myself but simply don't have the space for more toys, so am alerting the forum. I do not know the seller nor have I seen the instrumen...

I'm glad the scammer got nailed, but just so everyone knows: just because someone is a forum member doesn't mean they're honest. I was scammed only one time in dealing through SGF, and that was with a forum member. Bob terminated his forum membership over it (and some other things) but I still lost ...

You're right of course, Donny. But the point I was trying to get across is that I see a need for a contact to assist our heirs in at least giving them some advice on how to dispose of our equipment in a fashion in which a reasonable, fair, and honest outcome ensues. I don't know how such a contact w...

Yup, that's the one. You're right. If all the parts were there and not damaged beyond repair it could be a great deal for someone - that is, someone who knows what they're doing.

Nice guitar and good job with the knobs, but I'm pretty sure the original knobs were the same as those on a Les Paul and replacements are available in many music stores, so if someone wanted to make the instrument look more "original" it could be done. I owned one like this back in the 60'...

Carter universal on eBay

I'm sick. Someone is selling his father's instruments on eBay and one of those instruments was a pretty green Carter uni. The guitar was sold to some klutz who apparently tried to convert it to an extended E9th but only succeeded in turning a precision piece of machinery into a pile of junk metal. H...

recap it, get the tubes checked, re-bias if really needed, clean it up, replace the power cord, replace any damaged/missing knobs, and give it a nice shine with "son-of-a-gun" (if you can find it!) ....it's great stuff for vinyl...really just pure liquid wax and will leave that amp looking...

Ha Erv, maybe since we've learned how (finally) to play in tune, our music ear is less tolerant of "almost" on key than it once was. It was said years ago that Elvis didn't like steel guitar because of the lack of precision of the notes being played. Of course, he wasn't talking about Big ...

Oh yeah. Thanks, Georg. This is exactly what I was thinking would have been the ticket for my old Baggett. If you removed the bearing, replaced the brass with aircraft aluminum and bent the edge of the scissor finger just a bit so that it hit center on the change finger, that would be the Baggett de...

I once owned a Baggett Custom U12 that had a changer very similar to that used on the old Fender 1000's. In the Baggett changer, a very narrow hardened steel finger engaged aircraft aluminum to move the string. The result after many years of playing was that the steel finger began to wear a groove i...

Changer bearings

I've never seen one up close, but I understand the Infinity PSG has bearings on moving contact surfaces within the changer. Always thought this would be the way to go for smooth changes and life of the changer mechanism. For those of you that have one - what is your opinion of this "bearing&quo...

Problem with steel guitars is that they are, for the most part, custom made. This makes volume production (even if there is demand) a no-go. This, in turn makes even the more prolific brands, i.e. MSA, Emmons, Zum, Sho-Bud, Fessy, etc., etc., a very small manufacturing operation. Without volume, the...
