Some bars are just softer metal and are prone to scratching. I used to use a Sho-Bud bar and after a couple years it developed deep grooves parallel to the strings. I tried removing them with rubbing compound, which worked, but new ones formed after a while. Now I have been using an Emmons bar for m...

I highly recommend the Peavey mod kits. I put them in my Profex II and N400. They do exactly what they're advertised to do. My two units sound cleaner, the N400 is clearer and more brilliant across the board--both units just sound better. They are very reasonable in cost, if you have technical skill...

JB--Great post, and it's worth a lot more than 2 cents. I hope everyone in the SG community can appreciate this problem and regards it with the utmost seriousness. If you drink and drive or pass the buck you are part of the problem. Please everyone, do your part to make this situation better. Ed

Jack--I'm not sure HOW to do it but I'm sure it is possible because that's how my Tele is wired. I have a stock B-bender Tele which I had modified with a center pickup, and my center position of the 5-position switch is the neck plus bridge pickups. I wanted to keep that as one of the real classic T...

I installed the Peavey mod in my N400 and it made a tremendous difference in the sound of the amp. It sounds (even) cleaner, the highs sparkle more; the lows and highs just sound better. The un-modded amp seemed to have too much midrange type tone that was hard to get away from--great for a particul...

Back in the late '70's, a few years after I first started playing steel, I answered a want ad to play for a local band in the Newburgh NY area. They told me their steeler had quit to go professional. A short time later I met Chris (Tiny) Olsen at one of our gigs, and he said he had been playing for ...

If you use a Profex II or similar effects unit, plug the output into a headphone amp and you have a headphone system with all of your usual sounds. Ed

I use it on a couple of rock/blues type songs in slide guitar style. It does get old real fast if you overdo it. I have a distortion patch programmed into my profex-II. Ed

b0b--I completely agree with your take on Jerry Garcia, and I was never really a Dead fan. And I love the intro to "Teach"--what a pretty piece of playing. The masters really know how to choose their notes. Ed

Bob G-- I programmed a fabulous tremolo effect on my profex II but I'd have to look at the unit to remember how I did it. I think it uses the PAN effect and it is adjustable for speed and depth. I use a mono output--I'm not sure if it works with a stereo output. Ed

Stephen, sorry I missed your survey and couldn't add my 2 cents. I just was not looking closely at the Forum during the time it was on. I wonder if there are a lot of people like me that you missed? Ed
