Bill, that Electro-Hawaiian Classic is a beautiful instrument. I also really like Bill's single coil pickups he put in the first Ben Harper series. They are very big sounding clean and can be overdriven nicely. Everyone always comments on the sound of my Asher guitars. I like the fact that Bill is n...

Hi folks, I own several of Bill's lapsteels and guitars, and was lucky enough to be able to order the first production Ben Harper Series II #001 of 100. The instrument sounds killer and is truly impeccably made. Bill is a wonderful luthier to work with and is a great guy! I got to meet him in person...

1935 Rick Frypan
Greetings everyone! It's been a while since I have posted so I thought I would put up some pics of my Frypan that I took a few weeks ago. Before I got this one I had only seen photos of one so I am pretty happy that I actually own one of these. Now I am working on getting a long scale one. The picku...

Rick, Bill Asher also does a great rewind on Rickenbacker pickups. He rebuilt a horseshoe pickup he put on a prototype lap steel I bought from him. Bill used the original magnets but built a new bobbin to accomodate the wider string spacing of his design. He found a coil of older copper wire to use ...

Sage, to answer your questions on production figures I talked to Randy with Guitar Traditions, Bill Asher's company, and he said the first prototype was made for Ben Harper in early 1998. It had a Sunrise pickup mounted on it. By mid 1998 they started production runs in batches of five with the stan...

Olli, I have the third Asher. I purchased mine after hearing Greg Leisz play one here in Austin. Danny, at Guitar Traditions, mentioned someone from Finland wanted one too. You may have even seen a picture of it. It has a highly figured koa top with grain running in two directions. It has a big, rou...
