I've owned and played through multiple examples of both tube and solid state amps. I can't get the sound I want through a solid state amp, so I will use tube amplification until I can't. I have not tried the Fender Tone Master Twin Reverb but I have no reason to at this point - I'm quite happy with ...

Very nostalgic! I bought the phaser and distortion pedals back in the late 1970s when they were manufactured in Chanute. I liked the phaser best of the two and got some pretty interesting tones for pedal steel and even bass guitar.

I'm deeply saddened by his passing. Rusty was always a huge inspiration to me. I've loved his songs and his steel playing for decades. Rusty pretty much single-handedly kept the Poco legacy alive in recent years. I was privileged to see him play live several times over the years and those shows are ...

Congrats on the new-to-you amp, Don! :D To add to the general conversation about low end from a steel guitar rig - The Session 500 features a built-in crossover. So for a player who is looking for truly extended low end, it would be a fairly simple matter to set the crossover around 125-150Hz and pa...

I'm 57 and am planning for the future. I love my old MSA and I really prefer tube amps, so I'm voluntarily sticking with heavy gear. To compensate as I get older, I am currently working on getting things split up so each trip or handful aren't so heavy. To make moving my guitar a bit easier, I switc...

James, here's a photo of my Out West pack seat. The compartment arrangement is a little different than others I have seen but I like it, it's been a very useful layout.

Starland Vocal Band "Afternoon Delight" with PSG providing the astonishingly realistic sound of a skyrocket in flight. ;-)

Probably doesn't qualify as a "pop hit", but Jimmy Page played PSG on Led Zeppelin's "Tangerine".

Silverface Twin Reverb. Mine is a '73 with KT88 power tubes and Utah 12s. It's got the sound I like best. I don't want to play gigs that 100 watts isn't loud enough for.

Godfrey - Thank you for such interesting and informative posts. Back in the early/mid 80s, I was looking to go from a Twin Reverb with 2-12s to a 115 amp. The Nashville 400 had just come out, and the Fender dealer in town told me about a new Fender amp that was coming out at that time as well, a 200...

Does anyone know if the Speedy West guitars had mechanical differences from the Marlen guitars?

Bert, I’m not very familiar with current student models. Maybe someone with some knowledge about them will chime in. In the past, student models generally were not designed to alter pedal setups. The newer Carter student model is not changeable from what I have read here on the forum. Doug Earnest...

Bert, If you're willing to go with a used guitar, it is very possible to get into that price range on an older S10 pro-level guitar. Pro models will feature mechanics that give you a lot of flexibility on tunings and pedal configurations. However, most single neck guitars will already be tuned to E9...

I believe Adam's guitar represents a slightly later model than the guitar that Bill's photo illustrates. Adam's guitar has exactly the same round cross rods that mine had...other than the D10-to-SD10 conversion, it is literally identical. I bought mine from the original owner and he told me he had n...

I owned an identical D10 MSA for many years, with ten pedals and two knee levers. Heavy but sounded good. The mechanism is not as refined and smooth as later models, but when set up correctly, it works fine. It looks like the humbucking pickup from the C6 neck has been installed on the E9 on your gu...

My situation and opinion is exactly what Donny said.

How is it "hacking" and "destroying" a guitar to unbolt/unscrew some parts? I could turn mine back into a D10 in three hours with no sign it had ever been set up as an SD10.

I bypassed the volume and tone controls on my '74 Classic (stock Supersustain II pickups) fifteen years ago and I love the tone. It opened up the top end and really sounds great, in my opinion. If you're handy with a soldering iron, it doesn't take long to wire the pickup directly to the input jack,...
