This is a new 22.5" scale length stainless steel 8 string prototype I've been working on with a noiseless Sentell pickup.
The strings are setup for A6 tuning with a string spacing of 0.393"

Thanks! I recently finished this. I used a CNC router and a lot of sandpaper. I will add a cargo pocket and larger handle on the next one and maybe another case for the legs and stands I make. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/20895_case4_1.jpg https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/2...

building steel guitar hard cases
I am working on a first prototype hard case for the 8 strings I make. There is a lot that goes into a designing a good case! Lots of options for hardware, handles, finishing, and balancing. This one is almost balanced, so I'm going to change the handle, and I'm thinking about making a pocket for a t...

C6 web app
Hi All, I started working on this to help me remember C6 songs and scales for the six string lap steel. It makes sound and shows the notes and fret positions. I though some others learning C6 might find this useful. I've been trying to play more without looking at the fretboard. It's free to use. I'...

Thanks, I'm glad this is useful and works on the iPhone! It's great that there are many options for leaning steel guitar! SteelSideKick looks interesting and useful, and I'm looking forward to using the tools at HawaiianSteel.com when they are back online. I just finished my last 2021 lap steel buil...

Fretboard Visualizer
Thanks to all for posting many great tabs and links that are helping me learn to play steel guitar :) I started working on this simple free web app to look at fret positions 1-12 with 1-14 strings tuned to any key. It's been useful to highlight pockets of notes in scales and songs I'm learning. www....

DIY Lap Steel Stand
It's a challenge to design a lap steel stand that is lightweight and easy to assemble with parts and tools that can be purchased at almost any hardware store. The legs weigh 6 lbs and cost about $40 for the parts. I'm working on documentation for all the parts, tools, cuts, and bends to make these s...

DIY Lap Steel Stand
Thanks! I have been working on my house today, and I have been looking at a lot at plumbing and electrical fittings. I had a tube bender, so I made some legs with electrical conduit. This was about $60 in parts and took 30 min to assemble. It's solid, and I'm thinking about replacing the set screws ...

Steel Rail Guitars DIY Lap Steel Stand
I built this simple lap steel stand yesterday. It was easy to assemble using a piece of 3/4" plywood, 1/2" NPT pipe and fittings, and some rubber feet. This is not an adjustable height stand, but it is very stable. I assembled all the pieces and cut down the bottom sections to the height I...

battery powered tube amp
I've been having fun playing my lap steel outside with a Ryobi power inverter in the back of a tube amp. I already had batteries and a charger, and it cost about $60 for the inverter. It did hum with the inverter on the spring reverb tank, so I moved it outside of the amp, and it sounds great :) htt...

This is a 28" scale left-handed baritone steel I finished for a friend last week. It weighed in at 7 lb. 11 oz. I tuned it to low C6 and recorded a sound sample: https://steelrailguitars.com/ Looking forward to hearing the music my friend will make with this :) https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/u...

Thanks Brooks! It sounds a little brighter without a tone pot. I like to wire humbuckers and P90 pickups with just a volume control or sometimes straight to the output jack and put a volume pedal on the floor. This setup is simple and I'll just make tone adjustments on the amp or with an equalizer p...

I'm working on adding more options to the fretboard visualizer as I'm learning :) The stainless steel works well so these instruments have lots of sustain, stay in tune, and there is no paint or finish. Gene, I would like to build an 8 or 10 string at some point! I can build these custom for any sca...

Steel Rail Guitars
Hi All, I started recently playing the lap steel and making these stainless steel guitars. These are 22.5" short scale length, and I'm working on a long scale model and a hard case for these. www.steelrailguitars.com https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/20895_steel_rail_guitars_1.jpg ...
