Tone, Sustain
What (if anything) affects the tone of a lap steel instrument other than the pickup and the strings that are on it ?

Notes from a Newbie - 1
I started playing last February. With all the amazing expertise on this forum I thought it might be interesting to other beginners or those just thinking about trying it to hear from someone with no expertise at all :D . Guitars: I started with a $100 Rogue (6 string C6) just to see if I really even...

Supro Pickup - any info
Looking for any information I can get on this pickup. All the ones I see have 2 sets of 3 poles. This one has them staggered. I am guessing there is a coil on each one but haven't wanted to dig in to find out. Anyone have any info on this ? (I have not been able to date this, there is no logo, no se...

Bullet vs. Shubb
I'm just learning the lap steel and started with a Shubb SP-2, then got a Dunlop 919 just to try it out. I was very surprised at the difference in tone. I was glad to see Carl Gallagher's comment about the tone and sustain difference and that maybe it's not just my imagination. So I'm trying to lear...

Bill McClosky - flat tonebar ?
Bill, curious about that flat rectangular tonebar you posted here. I got one like it that came along with a Supro I bought recently. Judging from the wear on it, somebody used it a lot. I can't figure out how you would even hold it or what the advantage might be. Have you used that thing ?

Supro ?
Update - I ended up buying this for $350. It is in excellent condition, all original, and sounds really great. Case (Geib) is also in good condition. This came with 3 steels, a Stevens Pat.pending, a Stevens with AP&M logo and patent number, and a flat rectangle about 1/4" thick with no mar...
