if I want to learn a song with a non-trivial chord progression, I find it is much quicker if I write a chord-number chart first. It takes just a few minutes, it doesn't have to be fancy or cover every intricacy, but it sets the stage for me. It also forces me to listen carefully to the tune wholesa...

Hi Karlis - I'm planning a lap steel with benders, and I was considering whether the 'raise the A to B' would be adequate for minor chords, given the voicing - sounds like you had the same concern! Here's what I'm contemplating: The multibendor allows the addition of a third lever. I know some playe...

Regarding the comment in the guide about the Nashville number system, I understood that 'Nashville number system' expressly refers to using Arabic numerals and not Roman numerals to designate the chords - is it different for pedal steel?

If I were doing a Franklin pedal I'd put it next to the A pedal, as I often use it immediately before/after the A. When I got my G2 it was on the other side - next to the C - and I was constantly moving from A/B over the C pedal to the Franklin pedal, and although it worked I didn't see any advantag...

Hi Doug - I've been watching the auction since it launched, and will be bidding on a few of the lap steels, as well as the Hipshot BGE Bender.

What tuning do you have on the Fouke?

Thanks,

its because Sweetwater pulled their entire tube inventory and re-directed it to their suppliers of tube amplifiers so that they can continue to sell them. Makes sense. I was able to get some from them because they sell one of my models but I actually declined and cancelled that order because there ...

My personal view is that it's one of the most difficult instruments - or at least 'european/western' instruments - on which to become a competent player. For context, I've played 6-string guitar and saxophones (alto, soprano, tenor, and bari) for 30+ years, and have at least some basic training or e...

I sometimes use an FM3 for recording. It’s a wonderful piece of gear! I generally run each of the main outs into two 1073 inspired channel strips with eq (Aurora Audio GTQ2). I tend to roll off just a touch of the ultra high end, which in my opinion is responsible for the “digital fizz” many people...

A few weeks ago I got a Fractal FM3+FC6, since I recently joined a band (on 6 string) that plays completely ampless with electronic drums, with all monitoring through IEMs. So far I'm very impressed by the FM3 - both the tones and the functionality. It takes some time to learn the functions and to d...

Could be something as simple as a dirty jack - perhaps try cleaning them with a suitable contact cleaner and see if that fixes the issue? And of course eliminate other variables - like the cables, the preamp, etc. - before taking it in for servicing.

I wonder what the custom fee was to get it into Europe? Can't say what the price was back when it was imported. But now the custom fee is 25% of the price of the guitar and shipping cost added. Besides that there's a handling fee of 100 US dollars. So if bought a LDG in the US for lets say 2800 dol...

If it's just for your own listening/monitoring, I'd say go with whatever gives you the sound you want - i.e., there is no objectively right or wrong answer. If you want a more 'traditional' stereo image, I would say the last option is the only one that will give you a 'stereo' image - i.e., on the b...

Thanks for the advice! My thought is that the PF4 pedal seems mostly like a “lick” pedal, not so much a chord voicing pedal that would do anything I can’t already do with a standard Emmons E9. Note that PF4 also gives you an alternate voicing for the V7 chord - for example, on strings 5/6/8, ...

Looks good! Very similar to mine (though I have G#->B on LKV, like on PF's older copedent). Some recommend putting the Franklin pedal to the left of the A pedal - since it's common to use it with the A/B pedals and it may be easier to move immediately to the left than to skip over the C pedal to hit...

Is it a passive volume pedal? If so, is the input perhaps wired to the wiper of the pot (as opposed to the outer lug)? So I’ve always wondered if the dual benders were setup like the AB pedals on an Emmons E9 setup. I.e. 1 lever a 1/2 step and the other lever a whole step? Not familiar with the Duesenbergs at all but I’ve always wanted one for when setting up the Shobud isn’t practical. I think that's a very ...

Turning the winds on the tuners to wrap "over" may give you enough clearance. It looks like the wraps are "under" now. That was my thought too - I can't imagine the builder intended the strings to cut into the wood like that, and turning the tuners the other direction may leave ...
