My biggest problem is muting. I've been playing steel for a few years now, but I'm still struggling to unlearn the habits from 50 years fingerpicking an acoustic guitar, where you almost never want to mute.

I've never been able to get used to finger picks, but I got sick of my nails fraying away whenever I play. That's got worse as I've got older.

I find semi-regular visits to the local nail bar are pretty effective.

Instead of messing about with the bridge that comes with that instrument, it might be worth getting one of the GeorgeBoards kits to replace the bridge and nut, and lengthen the scale. That's got a great sound, Glenn. I wish I could get hold of one.

I have a couple of Maton electric guitars, and they have the best necks I've ever played.

Glenn Wilde wrote:Looks cool. I think Cole Clark guitars from Australia is some kinda offshoot from Maton, at least I remember hearing something like that. Cole Clark makes some fine Ricky like steels.
Glenn, Cole Clark may well have worked for Maton, but Maton is still going strong, and still owned by the family.

I've also been fooling around with that B11 tuning for a couple of years. I still haven't really got my head around it, but if you pluck any three strings, you get a jazz noise.

I really enjoyed Steelonius and Keeping it Real. You have a really interesting approach to the instrument.

I'll be interested to see where you take it. You're an innovator.
