If "breaking in" means loosening up the surround and spider, as I believe it does, then you really want to get the cone moving, and the way to do that is with bass notes. What I have done is record a walking bass line on electric bass into a digital recorder, set it on endless loop, plugge...

If you go to google.com/images and search for "plastic fingerpicks" you'll see many examples.

I've tried some at times over the years, but never found any to be satisfactory.

Just enough to add a little color and individuality, but definitely not flashy.

Regarding the Zum Encore, I think the compromises they have made to keep the price down are almost entirely cosmetic: no polished parts, no fancy woods, no inlays, no glossy lacquer. But in terms of function and tone, it delivers at a very high level.

Kluson doesn't give a lot of dimensional data for their products, but they do spec a .250" diameter post 1" tall, and .781" to the string through-hole. Those dimensions sound compatible with the Gotohs. The relative positions of the post and the screw holes have been standard for so m...

I find it easier to visualize signal flow with a schematic rather than a wiring diagram. The figure below shows a schematic version of the Guitar Electronics diagram, shown in the middle (No. 3) position. The left side represents their diagram as shown, the right side shows the black and white wires...

I concur that the Oak-Grigsby Superswitch is an excellent choice. Make sure you get the 4-pole double-wafer variety with 24 solder lugs. As far as the wiring goes, if: North start = white North finish = red South finish = green South start = black, then the above diagram should work for you. However...

Nylon is extremely hydrophilic (water-absorbing), so water based dyes like RIT fabric dyes work beautifully. They come in gazillion colors, plus you can mix them and create your own if desired.

So, not that it’s an option, but theoretically if you tuned it to G and raised it to G# would you have less breakage? Both my strings snapped while engaging the B pedal to get to the A. I think the main point of slow tuning or pulling on the speaking length of the string is to settle all the wind...
