Blanton

Post by Bob Sykes »

Wow....Those Schild and Ben-Rom fret boards (and guitars) are eye candy. Nice!!!

Good question Matt. Hopefully someone will know whatZBehind those ornate military markers?

Here's Black & White Blantons

This was called an old Blanton. The board looks a lot like the Howard shown earlier.

Pedalmaster Ranger & Classic

Post by Bob Sykes »

A Ranger pedal steel with pistol fretmarkers. Probably a student model. Possibly a 1-0ff?

Image

Ranger PSGs were built by Pedalmaster mostly using the same fretboard as the "classic" models.
The "classic" Pedalmaster fretboard (shown earlier in this thread) was also available in white.

Lots of Classic pics here: http://www.pedalmastersteelguitar.com/archive_1.htm

Does anyone have an idea what the ZB position markers mean? I've looked at all the others and largely get the logic of them, but the symbols for my ZB are mystifying. Is it a military ranking thing?
I remember asking Bobbe Seymour that question when I worked for him at Steel Guitar Nashville, he knew Zane well and told me that Zane said they were all condom labels. True story! The obvious one is for Trojans, I forget what the others were. I think Sheik was one, not sure of the labels, never used em.

Anyone have a Marrs fretboard pic? Duane had a nice looking fretboard.

Sho Nuff, thats what they are.

I think my pick of the litter is the Franklin, I always thought that was a classy looking fretboard!

Here’s an “odd duck”

Post by David Graves »

My buddy has this steel he wanted me to look at and help him sell it. But the only information I can find on it is on the fretboard. It says “ Stokes”. It’s a 12 string 3 x 4. Anyone know anything about these guitars?

Wow. So many cool and new (to me) freboards and guitar builders. Thanks for posting.
It looks like we got ZBizarre (but very amusing) answer on ZB fretboard symbols.

David, Hopefully you'll get some more info on your "who's the builder?" thread. For now I guess it's a "Stokes".

I haven't seen a Kline yet. Here are mine, S12 and S10:

These are the earlier type. Later ones had some of the math symbols encased in a white circle. This is one that was listed here some years ago:

My old GES S12 has a fretboard made from Plexiglas or some other kind of acrylic or polycarbonate. Looks like the dots and fret markers were made by cutting into the underside of the material.

Cool wood fretboard on this homebrew keyless S10. I have no idea who made it, though. Anybody know?

One more... This is a mid-'70s Fender (Sho~Bud) Artist S10. The fretboard looks about the same as the one on the older cable Fender already posted.
