Question: Pick ups and using guitar pedals

I tried to hook up my steel to my guitar pedal board which is the usual collection of Boss guitar pedals and was not crazy about the sound. I recently saw an interesting video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSechPmC20U) where Russ Pahl was being interviewed by Zak Child talks about how he had to m...

What convention is the best for gear and workshops?

I am interested in going to steel guitar conventions for workshops but also to try out gear. What convention presents the most complete variety of pedal steel builders and models as well as related equipment? Are there conventions where it is possible to rent guitars to use in workshops? I see peopl...

Re: chords

Hi Mick I have in my collection of tutors ,Hal Leonard pedal steel chords and scales. 1,100 chords and 430 scales by Chad Johnson. Hope this helps. Sounds like one of those “1001 Chords!” books that gives you 20 chord shapes, labels them with all their synonyms, and then transposes them to all 11 o...

Re: Peterson Sweetners

Guys, attached is the list of PSG Sweeteners in my Stroboplus HD. There are several options for E9 guitars. Am I correct in assuming I would use SE9 for open strings and SP9 for pedals and levers? Thanks, John in Ohio I just received mine yesterday and was told by somebody that the SE9 was for open...

What book/method has Complete set of chord shapes?

I was wondering what is the best book/source that has all shapes/grips for all chords and inversions, including all 7th chords min7, dom 7 plus extensions/alterations, half diminished etc., for both E9 and C6 necks. When I was studying chord shapes on guitar we learned about drop 2s an drop 3s. Drop...

Nice tone. Love the song. I ordered their album and it's really nice work. There is a live version of Hickory Wind on Music City roots that is even better than the album rendition.

Thank you so much to all of you for the suggestions. I tried all the amp settings. The active volume pedal is something I will definitely look into. There were some divergent opinions on the Nashville 112 settings but I found something that is much closer to the focused tone I was seeking for the Fe...

Searching for better Tone

I have a Fessenden SD-10 and a Nashville 112 with a passive Goodrich volume pedal. I just find my tone is muddy no matter what knob twisting I do. I know tone is very much about technique and picking style. And maybe this is a stupid question. But listening to the Lloyd Green and Jaydee Maness video...

Guitar scale/size

I presently own a Fessenden SD-10 3 + 5 (Emmons copedent). It is sometimes a bit of a struggle to operate the levers on both legs and the same time as well as the LNV. LKL and RNR pedals seem to get bent. It seems the arc of my legs needs to be large to engage these levers but there is side pressure...

Opinions Williams D-10, 8+8, Keyless

I am interested in buying the Williams D-10, 8+8, Keyless and would like to hear any thoughts on this instrument, good and bad. Since I do not live close to someone that can service this instrument it has to be solid mechanically and function reliably.

Hey Donny..I hear it when the volume is down..it is more pronounced on the wound strings and it occurs when I pick without the bar. It is more noticeable when more than one string is being played ... it is also audible on single strings, again particularly wound ones.

Thanks to everyone for offering different solutions. Someone told me that it could be the POT in the volume pedal. I lowered the pick up..it's better but it definitely sounds like there is something rattling / growling near the pick up when the volume is off. I have no idea what it could be. It soun...
