I also have a Melbertmaster with George L's and my normal guitar overdrive, Zvex Box or Rock, is not to my taste. I do still use the boost function. Although, that could also be an amp problem ("like an icepick in my brain" as one sound guy described it) Not an overdrive, but I will say th...

"A Corpus Analysis of Harmony in Country Music"

I will say that I have played some sets of "classic country" where I never used a minor chord. Although you could blame the set list for that... If you would like a more systematic analysis of this issue, I'd direct you to the research of Trevor de Clerq (www.midside.com) Here are the note...

I also have one, that I rarely play... I did use it for a performance of Terry Riley's "In C" but thats about it.

I never thought about traveling with it as you did, thats not a bad idea! Maybe that will actually get me to play it...

I went to Nashville a few years back for a wedding. Wanted to go to the Hall of Fame but it was closed due to "inclement weather" Well, AJ's Good Time Bar was open and serving beer at 10am, and they had a great band with a fantastic steel player. No idea what their names were, but they pla...

Some guitars come from the factory with a piece of foam in the pull rods to cut down rattle in the pull rods. I have taken it out of 2 guitars. Gravity will change the position of the rods when turned over to actually work on. If you remove the foam, Pull the foam, set the guitar up on its legs and...

Thanks again fellas. Based on all that info y'all shared, I opted to just changed my LKR to lower the 9th string a half-step. I left everything else alone for now. This is turning out to be a lot easier than I initially thought! I just unscrewed the nylon, moved the rod from upper changer hole to lo...

Bushings Fixed! Time to get more complicated! ;-)

Yes, you are correct -- front apron faces the audience. The strip itself is resilient and can take a fair amount of flexing. But I never could find a way to grip it, after removing the screws, other than to insert something into the screwhole and try to get a grip to pry the thing out. Elegant? Nop...

That’s serious maintenance!!! Sounds like the body needs some sort of cross brace to minimise the “seasonal “ changes. I wondered about something like that, since right now I have too much play... what if I wedged a piece of foam or something else in there, so it absorbed some of the wiggling... I ...

It is a shame when open mics require performers to pay or have some drink minimum. I had great experiences at some particular open mics in New Orleans and Central Texas. They were opportunities to meet other musicians, try out new material (you got to play 2-3 songs) and get some experience on stage...

Couple of things -- Before you edited this, I watched your video and was planning on coming back to it this morning with some tips. But you've taken it down. I saw pretty excessive play in that cross shaft. Play in the Fessenden cross shafts is a seasonal thing (body expansion/contraction) and is a...

I just purchased my first pedal steel a Fessender S10, via a forum member. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/17386_fessy_s10_1.jpg I am already having a great time playing this thing! I guess a decade of playing lap steel made the transition not too bad. A lot more doo-hickeys, wingnuts an...

S10 Pedal Steel in SF Bay Area

I'm looking to purchase a pedal steel in the SF Bay Area. I have played lap steel for years, but never pedal. I'd like to start on an S-10 3x4. I would like to avoid "student" models and I also don't think I'm prepared for a D10 or Universal. Happy to hear y'alls opinions and if anyone in ...

The pickup shouldn’t be low output. The legs have been screwed in and out since…what…1956 with no problem but putting a drop of lube on the threads wouldn’t hurt. My "new" E Harp and long-term care

I impulse bought this E Harp, and am really enjoying it! https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/17386_eharp_1.jpg It is my first steel with legs, and I have to say I enjoy that stability and being able to stand while I play. This helps me be a little more agile at gigs and also, the steel stays...
