I've become a fan of Peruvian cumbia. Charango is essential. Check out Chicas del Sol and their rather attractive charango player.

On my Carter's extended E 9 setup, I have a zero-pedal to the left of A pedal. It flats the G#s to Gs.

So in "root position", say, G on the 3rd fret, the pedal results in a G minor chord--and that's also a C7 / C9 chord.

Ian, I also have my E to F lever hooked up to string 12 to send it down to C#. Good for scaring guitar players!

A true character, yes; but IMO also a great player. He came up to the New England meeting once. Played great--at a reasonable volume, too.

Nice thing about a 12 string is that you have a low tonic note in no-pedals position on string 12; and a low tonic note in pedals AB position on string 11 (when pedal B is hooked up to raise that G# string--like the other 2 G#s.)

For me, it didn't take that long to adjust to a 12-string extended E9. Now I wouldn't play any other tuning. I love having those 2 bass strings.

Great news, Johnny. I am part of the MSA family: rosewood mica Classic D 12; wood Vintage XL SD 12; and Carter SD 12. (I consider Carters to be MSA's "Cousins.")

Yes, those Thomastik jazz string sets, for example, are big bucks.

I have always preferred round wound strings on my 7 archtops . . . just my opinion, of course.

I still wouldn't transport it set up; Lots of stuff to get banged around, like the legs, both in the vehicle and bringing it to and from the vehicle.

Me? I take 5 minutes and put it in its case.

I made my living on the D 12 version of this guitar--same mica rosewood--for years. They are real solid workhorses.

Someone should buy this guitar.

Gotta chime in here to say how much I enjoy Ricky's exposition on Sho-Buds, and other commenters' observations.

I play a completely different kind of guitar (Carter SD 12) but love reading what you guys have dug up about Sho Bud history. Thanks!

I agree. Why spoil a guitar--and do a lot of work in the process? Just buy an S 10 or SD 10 or SD 12.

Nice old steel, Bob. MSAs are solid, reliable, sound good (to my ears!) and this one's a bargain if a player is into--or wants to try out--a 12 string.

Cool white tuners, too!
