I began with my E raise/lower on the left knee (technically D raise/lower as I play extended D9). After a couple months I read somewhere about splitting them between both knees so gave that a try and have never gone back ;-) Also, you couldn't have chosen a better builder. I've had my G2 for a few y...

Went from my 8 string Fender 400 (custom tuning) to a Mullen SD12 (extended D9) so it was pretty much like starting a completely new instrument ;-) I'd originally ordered a Mullen SD10 but while I was waiting for the build day to come I thought, why not go for a 12? If I hate it I can always leave s...

When I was deciding on a new PSG back in 2018 I made a list of all active builders then started researching and comparing. Went with Mullen because: 1) Not a single person boutique shop, but an actual manufacturing operation. I wanted a builder who had a long history and would likely be around for m...

I'd recommend a splittable humbucker that could give you both single coil( lower output, bright sound with a little hum). And double coil( louder, fatter sound, no hum)Wiring in series/parallel will give you the two sounds with no hum in either position. RP Exactly. That's what I did when I put a B...

If you plan on never buying another guitar I would go with 4 floor pedals and 5 knee levers. This would allow you to duplicate a lot of the sounds you hear on modern recordings and allow you to experiment with different tuning changes. I agree, though I'd actually go 5x5 if possible for more option...

I'm not a country guy, though up here in rural WA I hear a fair amount of modern country radio in stores and restaurants and am constantly disappointed to not hear a pedal steel. But any venue banning a specific instrument (especially one which almost defined the style of music the club is historica...

I didn't have the chance to play a Mullen before I ordered my SD12 G2 so I went with the stock single coil. After a year or so it occurred to me I'm a humbucker guy with all my electric guitars so why not my G2 as well? I swapped in a BL712 adding a coil split switch because I like the option of goi...

Re: Changing Your PSG Colour
Concerning vinyl wrap, here are 2 guitars that I wrapped over the bland woodgrain mica. This is no picnic either. It requires some disassembly, such as necks and keyheads, for an effective job. I've vinyl wrapped a couple...a BMI I later sold to Patrick Timmins of the Seattle pedal steel shop (he r...

My Arrangement of The Beatles - Good Night
Hi all, another Friday and time for another Pedal Steel Only arrangement. In fact, this is the final arrangement planned for the Pedal Steel Only playlist - though you never know what the future may bring! I thought it fitting to end the playlist with the same song the Beatles ended the "White ...

When I got back into pedal steel around 2016 there were no dealers within 800 miles of me so I had to buy sight unseen. First time I got lucky and got a Fender 400 which I still play. Then when I wanted to move up to a modern 10 or 12 string PSG I bought used and got stuck with 2 problem child boat ...

Thanks for the reply so far, Question to Bryce and Dennis: what's wrong with standard pickup in the Mullen, why did you replace it ? I can't judge, a comparison in sound is necessary. @Scott: any advantage Emmons -> Mullen ? Nothing wrong with the stock Mullen pickup and if you like single coils it...

I 2nd Bryce's comments on Mullen and can't recommend buying new from them highly enough. Got my SD12 G2 a few years ago and it does everything I ask it to, is easy to change copedents to try different things, stays in tune like a rock and is a dream to play. I did swap out the stock pickup for an L7...

They do return phone calls , and you can recognize their dialect as South African. While it was a different game, I can confirm that these scammers will return phone calls and appear legitimate so don't let that fact alone convince you they're for real. My wife runs a marketing business and was con...
