I was trying to think of what Universal-specific material was available online, and I remembered that Sierra hosts a number of videos on the Universal tuning by Joe Wright. I haven’t watched them myself so not sure what they all entail, but posting in case they’re of any interest. http://sierrasteel...

This is remarkable! I also saw your 'Polkadots and Moonbeams' video after this one and have spent the rest of the afternoon working to imitate some of these incredible chords you're getting out of the E9 -- I never realized they were all hiding in there! Fantastic stuff.

I remember seeing a review of the album on Saving Country Music in the summer (because that sure is a memorable album title!). It gives some good background on the artist, and it credits two steel players, Sam Norris and Burton Lee — couldn’t find which is on this track specifically.

One of my favorite albums of last year. Her self-titled record from 2017 was lovely as well. Here's a good pick from that one.

Another millennial steel player here, can confirm that most folks my age are only familiar with the steel through Spongebob. One roommate even referred to the instrument as “Spongebob guitar” whenever asking me about it. When I finally had a houseguest see it and ask if I knew how to play “Dir...

When Sneaky Pete’s break comes in on Frank Zappa’s “It Just Might Be a One Shot Deal” it is always a sock in the gut for me, as well as a reminder of everything I love about the instrument.

This is a wonderful little etude, thanks so much for sharing. You’ve definitely gained some followers on instagram by posting this here. Is the final note on the first line supposed to be on the fourth string instead of the fifth? Feel like that’s what i’m heating in the recording.

Just because you can heat up your food in the microwave is no reason not to own an oven. Thanks for posting the video, Rick. I always appreciate hearing how some non-traditional-country pedals sound on the steel. Wish there were more videos on this sort of thing, it would really help open people’s...

This post got me to actually laugh out loud! Lovely stuff as always by Will, I’ve shown his cover of Aphex Twin on Youtube to about a billion people, so I’m glad to have another show up on this EP. And big props for the Mulatu Astatke cover at the end. I love all those Ethiopiques records but di...

Another great track with Skunk Baxter on steel is the band’s very first single, ”Dallas”, which only ever appeared on a Japanese self titled compilation album. I think “Any Major Dude” has some steel as well!

Jeff, thank you so much! This was one of the songs that got me into the steel and I learned the intro from a prior transcription you made, it’s always my first impulse to play when I sit down at the steel. Excited to have some good transcriptions of the fills now!

A lot of fun surprises in this topic, thanks to all for sharing! Happy to see some credit going to Mr. Hoffnar's work with Hem, I used to play those tunes all the time on college radio. I went digging for answers as to Paul Franklin's work with Megadeth, and a topic from '01 suggested it was the son...

Krantz -

Stumbled upon this beautiful track by a Swedish group called Krantz the other day and saw no mention of them on the forum, so thought I would share it with y'all.

This is a really fun tab, always happy to see some variety in with the country tunes! I was toying around with the B section of the song and added in some harmonies and knee lever shenanigans that I enjoyed and wanted to share (if you have the second string lower I used on the 15th fret I do recomme...
