location of the bridge pickup
Ideally, the middle of the pickup bridge is 1.5 inches from the bridge. If it gets much closer than that the strings don't vibrate enough and you have to have a very hot pickup. It looks like your guitar is very close to that if not on the money. In any case, the bridge pickup should be hotter than ...

Thanks Howard & Peter
A big thank you to Howard for bringing my attention to the Harmos. I didn't know you could get a belly bar for it or that Jerry Douglas has played one. Also, thanks to Peter for pointing out that Lap King also has a belly bar--below is a couple pics. I also enjoyed watching Peter play on YouTube htt...

Jr. Brown's guit-steel
Thanks Bill for your question about Jr. Brown. I am sorry to say I did not know about his guitar. Here is a link to a YouTube video of him playing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ako-WpbzK3c This video also illustrates the versatility of the lapsteel in playing blues. I actually believe the slide bl...

great suggestions - keep it up
I know Asher makes a "belly body" bar but I didn't know that MSA superslides did as well. I also know that Peavey made a belly bar extension to add to their superslide. I also know that Melobar made an outrigger and when I talked to Ted from Melobar a couple years ago he mentioned this. Th...

A History of the Mobile Steel Guitar
Mobile Steel Guitar: A Historical Perspective The history of the mobile lapsteel/slide guitar goes back to the origin of the modern acoustic/electric guitar. There have been 4 attempts that I am aware of to build an acceptable mobile steel guitar: 1. Melobar’s Powerslide 2. Peavey’s Superslide 3. M...

sound samples
Good question Bill - sound samples are coming. I'm not sure sound samples really help much because so many things affect the sound, not the least of which is the settings on your amp. Even the kind of bar and the size and weight of the bar can dramatically affect sound. Also the wood, the pickup, an...

Thanks Brad- yes it has a hard shell gator case for a 3/4 size acoustic guitar. It fits great in there once I remove the neck box which is easily done by removing a few screws.

New Mobile Steel Guitar from Caladesi Guitars
The cost of these guitars is between $2,500 and $3,500 and you can buy them on the forum for a $400 discount from my EBay Store. Here is a first look at the new "Slide Guitar Hybrid" from Caladesi Guitars. I initially was going to call this a "Stand-Up Steel," but I now think &qu...

New patent pending hybrid slide steel from Caladesi Guitars
Here is a first look at the new "Slide Guitar Hybrid" from Caladesi Guitars. I initially was going to call this a "Stand-Up Steel," but I now think "Slide Guitar Hybrid" is the best description. It is a slide guitar on steroids, and I'm calling it a hybrid because it is...

Pickups, switch, weight and pickguard selection
The double pickups are Seymore Duncan Custom mini-humbuckers and they come with a 5 way switch! Select bridge only, two outside pickups, both humbuckers, the two inside pickups, and the neck hum. That’s a lot of different sounds! Together the two sound amazing with amazing resonance. Also the guitar...

Case
Tom- Thanks for the kind words. You can remove the belly body but there is really no need. It comes with a hard shell 3/4 acoustic gator case. It fits great in there (I just took out the neck box). It has taken me 4 years of work on this guitar to get it ready. I made over 40 bodies before I was sat...
