I have two of Johnie's lap steels. Love them. This one's a bargain at that price. Does he make them any more?

Here's one to consider. I have no affiliation with this seller, but I own two of James Adams' instruments and am quite happy with them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/204428101494?hash=item2f98dd4776:g:GR0AAOSwV9VkxXyr&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwPMLlkbdzFIPKejG%2B%2BXNGBUV%2BKkeRRojSDYtLrAtM0Cz%2Flaxfr45H3...

My favorite tuning for Blues/Rock is one recommended by the late Bobby Lee. Low to high G B D F# A D. He called it D/G. Strings 1-4 are open D and strings 4-6 are open G. Strings 1-5 are D6. You can play leads on 1-4 without tripping over that 6th note (the Hawaiian bomb), but you still have the rel...

I have one of the "Tin Cup Agate" bars that I purchased some time ago. I really liked it at first, but it wasn't long before it wore heavily around the business end, and took on the grainy, gritty feel that has been discussed. I wrote to them about it. They said it should become "braz...

6-string pickup

I hope that it's OK to post this here. I tried the Electronics section first, but didn't get much response. First let me make it clear that I'm mostly an acoustic musician, so my knowledge of pickups is pretty limited. I do have a couple of electric lap steels, an 8-string and a 6-string, both made ...

lap Steel pickup upgrade.

First let me make it clear that I'm mostly an acoustic musician, so my knowledge of pickups is pretty limited. I do have a couple of electric lap steels, an 8-string and a 6-string, both made by Johnny King. The 8-string came with a single coil pickup which sounded great except for the hummmmmm, whi...

I tried one of the Rocky Mountain stone bars. Mine is the Tin Cup Agate model. I really liked it at first, but within a few weeks it started developing small ruts that affected the tone and feel. I wrote to them about it. They said it should become burnished with time (it didn't) and also suggested ...

I have seriously arthritic fingers myself. I used shaped bars for years because I had difficulty holding onto bullet bars, particularly heavier ones like yours. My favorite was the Shubb SP2, which has a rounded nose and a Shubb GS, whose nose I rounded with a Dremel tool. I tried a couple of cerami...

You're welcome. I one dropped a very fine Larrivee I used to own. I was recording and when I reached up to adjust my headphones, the strap let go. Since then, I secure my straps.

There are plenty of Weissenborns being made, but the sort of guitar bodied flattop squarenecks that Oahu used to make have become rare. I have one made by James Adams that I'm very happy with. I'm sure there are many small shop luthiers that would be happy to make one on a custom order. Gold Tone us...

Blue chip Thumbpick for trade/sale.

https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/13897_Blue_Chip_Thumbpick_1.jpg I found this in the accessory pocket of an instrument I purchased years ago. It's basically in new condition. No signs of much if any use by the previous owner. I tried it briefly, but quickly decided I like my Fred Kelly S...

I don't think any of the above examples are using C6 tuning. The vast majority of solo accompaniment you hear is done in "open" major tunings or slight variants. I do a lot of this myself, mostly in D tuning. You need two roots on the lower strings to get that alternating bass thumb roll g...

That review by Stevie Coyle is for the mahogany 8418 version. This is the rosewood version. The store I bought it from also had an 8418. I AB'd them and decided the rosewood version was well worth the extra $$. They're both great guitars. Thanks for the post.
