I started playing console with one of Jim's bullet bars a few years back, and I haven't been able to use anything else since. I went for heavy and long, trying to get max sustain and also to do longer slants. The bar is 3 1/2' wide (or long) and a one inch diameter. Later I got a pedal, and then a l...

I couldn't walk away from the instrument and the time spent on learning what I know now. Worked too hard to gain what little skill I have to want to give that up. As far as working my way up the ladder toward fame and fortune, that's pretty unlikely in my case. I'd be happy to get some folks to jam ...

Last year I bought Mike's book, Winnie's book, and Mark's CD set. All are excellent. Still reading and digesting both books because life is busy and time is short, plus need to fit in practice time. The CD's have been played many, many times in my car as I commute back and forth to work. Even with m...

Steelmaster In The House
Congratulations Larry on your new Steelmaster. Its a huge day for you! Like Webb said on your other thread, this is an addictive instrument. Hopefully you'll still find time for your other guitars. I myself come home with the intention to practice scales in E9 on the Sho-Bud I bought this year, but ...

Ray had such an astonishing voice. Probably the best singer that I heard live. His voice was in the class with the greatest popular singers of the 20th century, who were, IMO, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. The biggest dfference for Ray was that his voice did not decline with age, as everyone else...

Webb, you're right about it being a privelege to own one of these instruments. National Treausure, indeed! Peter, the the sound of these guitars is truly incredible. I have the Fun Tab sheets, and I was also the first to buy the CD that goes with it. I confess that I haven't used the CD as much as I...

Hello! I'm a new member, and I have three steel guitars. First I bought a console four years ago (Remington Steelmaster D8 .. approximately 2008). Next up was a pedal (this summer I found a great deal on a 1973 Sho-Bud Pro II PSG). Then I decided I had to have a lap, and settled on a 1951 National S...

http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1205/13363_IMG_2026_1.jpg New member here; hello to all! This is the D8 I bought used about 4 years back. Inspired by Leon McAuliffe, I wanted to learn how to play a couple of Bob Wills tunes. Seemed as if a guitar by Mr. Remington would be the way to go, and b...

http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1205/13363_IMG_2016_1.jpg New member here. Have been working on learning console for a few years, and attended the PSG Symposium put on by UNC Chapel Hill this past spring. It was so interesting that I started scouring CL for a decent affordable PSG. Was able t...

Faded Love
I'm surprised that Faded Love by Bob Wills was not mentioned. It is both a Western Swing and Country classis tune, recorded by many. I play it every time I sit down to the steel, along with several of the other tunes mentioned in this thread.
I guess this one would be for the slow dances!
