My Williams U12 is almost a year old; it has never broken a 3rd string.

Williams: GREAT

I have a Williams 700 series U12: it's a great guitar, very well made and easy to adjust. Stays in tune. Bill Rudolph has always responded to me promptly --- perhaps you didn't have the correct email address or phone number. Really, Bill and his son are on it, and very pleasant indeed to do business...

Learning on a U12

I began my study of pedal steel last July; I have a Williams 700 series U12. I agree that it is no problem to translate E9 TAB to the U12. And I agree that TAB has limited usefulness if you really want to understand the instrument. As for the B6 side, I am cheerfully ignoring it until I gain some pr...

Where I LIve

I'm in Fairfax, VA, up near the Hot Air Capitol of the World. I'm fortunate in that Billy Cooper's is just a couple hours away from here, but I'm cursed with traffic that would drive a Zen Buddhist around the bend.

re Eucerin: I forgot to say, you don't apply it to your palms and the underside of fingers. After you rub it into your skin, you can throughly wipe your palms and any areas that will touch the bar.

Cracked Skin

Try Eucerin. You can get it in most drug stores. Work it into your skin and then wipe off any excess.
Good luck!

It's easy to adapt both C6 and E9 courses to the Uni. The Newman course on the Uni explains this clearly --- you can get that course from Billy Cooper's Music or directly from Jeffran.

Here; this is a very common configuration. There are minor variations that come up.

Hello Jean, I'm a fairly new U12 player and thought I'd offer a comment re your copedant suggestion. First, I'm impressed that you've obviously put some serious thought into this! I'd like to suggest that you adapt to the standard setup instead of inventing your own. There are several reasons for th...

China 9

That is really pretty steel guitar. I for one appreciate slower, soulful playing. Really nice --- and what a pretty guitar!

Knee Lever Instruction

Hi, The Up From the Top series by Jeff Newman has separate courses for the two most used knee levers. They are worth the cost. I'm sure you can search this on the forum; many forum members have attested to the value of Newman's instruction. I'm new to pedal steel and am currently using these courses...

Vox Headphone Amp, etc

Hey Paul, I do use all three together along with my Mac. The Vox Twin headphone amp is the one to get. If you only turn the volume knob on the Vox up halfway or less, you get a clean sound. It's actually quite good; uses AAA batteries that last a pretty good while; no wall wart. No problems with the...

Practice Rig Suggestions

Paul, I have a reasonably priced practice rig and thought you might like to see what it consists of. I'm presuming that you'd like to practice steel through headphones with rhythm tracks. I have also presumed, perhaps inaccurately, that you have a computer. You'll probably opt to add reverb at some ...

I also use a Behringer Xenyx 802. You can get one for roughly 65 bucks and they're quite versatile.

New Player Hello, Williams S12 Wide Body Image

Hello, I've been following this forum for a couple of years without posting anything. I just got my new guitar, a Williams S12, pictured below. I play just a little C6 lap steel and the pedal steel will be pretty much a new experience for me. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1205/12826_Williams...

Just Started: Williams S 12 Wide Body

I'm new to Pedal Steel and just took delivery yesterday of my Williams S12. I play a little C6 lap steel already, and the Universal seems logical to me. I will say that my right leg gets tired of holding in the "D" lever. I know there are locks for this, but I wanted to try it without.
