C6 - 1st String G or D?
My setup on the C6 neck was such that the first string is tuned to G with pedal 5 raising it to a G#. I recently got Herb Steiner's C6 Texas-Style Vols. 1 and 2, and all of the music in there has that first string tuned to a D. I was thinking about possibly leaving that string at D and using the RKR...

Lower Returning Sharp?
I've been having trouble with the 10th string low C to A lower on the C6 neck (1979 Sho-Bud Super Pro). The string will be tuned to pitch, the string will lower to A, but it comes back sharp. Probably about halfway between C and C#. But if I stretch the string with my hands, it will return to C. I'v...

I was just curious because I was having trouble with the C6 neck where some of the strings would not return to pitch because the fingers were hitting the end plate and could not return all the way. So I turned the screws a little bit and it raised the whole changer system so now all of the fingers c...

Not Sure What This is For...
On the end of both necks where the bridge and pickups are, there are 2 hex or Allen screws (on each neck) that seem to raise or lower the neck at the end where your picking hand rests. Is there a name for this adjustment? Also, what is the reason that you would want to make this adjustment? I haven'...

So far it has worked OK. I bought the guitar used and that was how it was set up. I recently started checking pedal and knee lever travel just to make sure everything is set up correctly and that's when I noticed it. There's 3 of them like that throughout the guitar. I thought about adding more bell...

More Than One Pedal on a Bell Crank?
I noticed that on my Sho-Bud Super Pro that some of the bell cranks have 2 different strings attached to it. Is this OK, or should this be avoided?

I also discovered that after the 10th string C comes back sharp, I can pull on the string with my hand and it will lower the note. It's like the string can't return on its own. I'll check the return helper spring. And would the 10th string C to A lower travel more because of how many notes it covers...

Sho-Bud Pedal Travel Adjustment C6 Neck
Hello everybody. I have a couple questions. Firstly, the guitar is a 1979 Sho-Bud Super Pro D-10. I've been mostly focusing on the E9 neck, but I started to play the C6 more. So the other day I did some maintenence on the guitar (changed both sets of strings, lubricated everything, took the pedal ba...

This picture is looking down at the changer(?) of the C6 neck. I turned the two hex screws on either side and it raised the entire mechanism. It does not catch anymore. Do all pedal steels have these screws, or is this just something that Sho-Buds have? Is there an actual name for this adjustment, a...

Its the metal part that catches, not the tuning nut. The string can't return to pitch because the finger catches the bottom of the endplate. I took the tuning nut off and pulled the rod out (second lower from right) so you can see it. All the lowers look close to the endplate, but the second string ...

Sho-Bud Super Pro - Need Help
This is a picture of the end of the C6 neck. My setup has the second string (E) lower to a D with a knee lever. When the string is lowered, it can't return all the way back because the finger(?) catches on the bottom of this plate and so the string stays flat. I took the rod out for this picture, bu...

Sho-Bud Super Pro - C6 Neck - Low C to A
Hello. I've been having some trouble with the tenth string on the C6 neck of my Sho-Bud Super Pro. It is the low C string, and I have it set up so the eight pedal lowers it to an A. It just doesn't stay in tune. I changed the strings a week or so ago. When I lower the string, it never comes back to ...

Volume Pedal
I have been looking at volume pedals and I see that Hilton and Goodrich seem to be the most popular. Any suggestions as to which one is better?

I have never oiled it. I bought it a few months ago and just tuned it up and started playing, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to clean it properly. I have some lubricant (called 'LubriKit' from Planet Waves) that I use on the tremoloes of some of my electric guitars and it works great. Any suggestions...

I was having a problem with another string not lowering all the way (2nd string on C6 neck E to D). There was a sixth knee lever already installed when I bought the guitar (it's to the left of the RKL lever) so I decided to have it lower the 2nd string E to a D and raise the 7th string C to a D. The...

1979 Sho-Bud Super Pro Pull Rods
I am looking into adding a couple extra pull rods to my pedal steel guitar. I cam across a website (www.psgparts.com) that sells the pull rods, but asks if they are a 'Cut #4-40 Threaded Rod End' or a 'Rolled #5-40 Threaded Rod End'. Does anybody know how I might be able to determine which is used?

I'll see if I can find a pic of the wiring. When I bought the guitar, the seller said that the tone potentiometer is gone, but the switch is included. When I got it, I opened the case and found a zip-loc bag with the switch, a capacitor, tone knob and other parts. In the pic above where the second s...

1979 Sho-Bud Super Pro Tone Knob/Potentiometer
I recently purchased a 1979 Sho-Bud Super Pro. It has the switch to select the neck that you would like to use, but it came with another switch, a capacitor, a knob and some other parts in a bag. I believe the knob is for the tone, but what would the other switch be for? I found a picture of a simil...
