C6 - 1st String G or D?

Post by Chris Weronski »

My setup on the C6 neck was such that the first string is tuned to G with pedal 5 raising it to a G#. I recently got Herb Steiner's C6 Texas-Style Vols. 1 and 2, and all of the music in there has that first string tuned to a D. I was thinking about possibly leaving that string at D and using the RKR lever with the double stop to raise it to G and then G#. Does anybody out there use this change? I've read that tuning the first string to D is now more common, so is the G on the way out? I'd like to hear what some people with more experience have to say.

I don't think it's on the way out. It's kinda hit a permanent minority position.
If you raise 3 to C#, and combine it with P5, you get an A6 from string 2 on down to 9, or C6th three frets up.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects
