Glad to hear you are still enjoying yourself and hungry to learn more Niels. I've been playing for about 12 months. Just when I feel like I know what I'm doing, I discover something new and it starts all over again. What an amazing instrument. I was like you. I thought I was a guitar player (and a g...

Lessons near Raleigh, NC
Been playing for a little while now (8 months) and feel like a lesson would do me some good. Just looking for some new ideas and also someone to talk steel with. Maybe show me some intros to some of the old classics like Heartaches By the Number, Under Your Spell Again, etc... If you are in the Rale...

I'm a new player and went through the same process you are going through about 3 months ago. I own a Derby D-10 which I love, but wanted a SD-10 to lug around to band practice and jam sessions. I tried many different brands of steels (Emmons, Zum, Mullen, etc.) Zum is probably the best right now in ...

Jerry, I have personally used all of those amps you listed above. One of my band members owns a Fender Frontman 211 that he offered to let me use. You can play with the EQ all you want on that amp and it will never sound good for steel. The other amps you listed are not ideal for steel. If you can, ...

Donny: Sound advice! I get those looks all the time, but with hours of practice, I've noticed they don't come my way as often. Lane: As always, you provide great insight. Larry: Good points. Dave H: I agree. That's kind of what I was thinking. Thanks to all for the advice. I really appreciate it. It...

Yea, sometimes I have to split the neck up and I feel like it prevents me from making things sounds right. For instance, we do Together Again in A major. I'm playing the break up really high starting on the 17th fret. It's cool up there, but would rather play it on lower frets so it sounds a little ...

Tuning Down
The band I'm currently playing in does classic country, but we rarely play anything in the same key with the recorded versions. I've noticed we play most things a step and a half down from the recorded version. I'm relatively new to playing steel and I'm trying to learn all the kickoffs and turnarou...

As a younger player, I think we have more choices and access today and that's good and bad. Someone mentioned earlier that the younger generation wouldn't miss a smoothie to see their favorite player. Yes, that's because we can get a smoothie and watch our favorite player on YouTube at the same time...

Newbie Help - Sliding Up
I was hoping maybe someone could help me with out with this song. I have some nice fills and things going on that I like, but I can't seem to slide up to the chorus in a way that I want. Any ideas? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uO_u7aGQyBg I think Paul Franklin is doing the steel work on this. He h...
