I just opened the case for my Gretsch squareneck and discovered the tailpiece had broken in this same way (both legs of it in my case) ... I was planning on gifting it to a young man who wanted to start learning dobro ... disappointing ... I guess I'll get it fixed as it is a shame to not let it con...

Maybe I just need to work with it more ... mainly it's noisy ... I am first gonna try some different strings to hopefully beef up the tone ... then we'll see from there ... thanks.

Gretsch Electromatic - Pickup Upgrade

Guys and Gals ... I have a Gretsch Electromatic I bought a while back which has just been sitting while I have been Dobro-centric for the last few years ... I am thinking of upgrading the pickup ... any suggestions for a pickup choice? Any other upgrade suggestions? Thanks.

Interested in opinions, demos and sound clips to evaluate differences in the Beard Odyssey and E Model (Mahogany or Maple) -- squarenecks only -- ... if anyone has experience with these 2 reso's I would appreciate any opinons and feedback ... thanks.

Bar/Steel Replacement?

Should a bar/steel last indefinitely? If not, any tips on when to replace it? About how long should a good steel/bar last? How often have you changed out yours due to wear?

Rick, if it's this one on craiglist , it wouldn't hurt to check it out and see how firm the price is. You might be surprised. That's the one (Chapel HIll area) ... I'm not in hot pursuit of another Reso right now, but I'd like to check it out ... as I get more into this instrument, the "call&q...

Tut Taylor

Does anyone know a ball park price that would be reasonable for a 1994 solid mahogany Tut Taylor? I played one several months ago and thought it was great for the price. Hard to find them though and I saw one listed for sale but it seems way too high. Thanks.

So I hear that strap locks are highly recommended for squarenecks ... was wondering, if there is a pickup jack in the end button, where would you put the strap lock button? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

If you've got a handle on the fretboard and where to find chords, partial chords and the like, and have a good handle on technique, then I'd advoacate putting together your own arrangements to incorporate the ideas you speak of. I've been enjoying taking a song and arranging it myself, always utili...
