RIP b0b

Very sorry to see this. Much gratitude and respect to b0b and deepest condolences to the family. I work in IT and would be happy to lend a hand if needed. I’ve learned more about pedal steel from this forum, thanks to b0b, than from anywhere.
RIP

Dredging up a thread I knew had to already exist on the board. I've been listening to Highway Call a lot lately and 'Hand Picked' just gets me every time. Such inspiring playing all around and John's steel is just fantastic on the whole album. Dust off your copy and crank this one up again. It's a g...

Thanks Lane. I've been trying to get a better handle on how to use those first two strings during lead breaks or for fills, etc.

Thanks Richard. This thing is complicated, lol. I always use string 7 with A&B pedals down for the dom7th. Will have to try it on the first string. Pardon my ignorance but what chords are easily made by changing it to go up to G? I guess this is really a bigger question about strings 1&2 in ...

Mullen RP Copedent question

Hi,

My Mullen RP string 1 change is on RKR and changes the pitch up a half tone. I've never found a good use for it and wonder if that is even a correct change. I've tried tuning the change up to a full step but that only raises the string up a half step too.
Any thoughts, advice is appreciated.

Adding a lever or pedal to a Mullen RP?

Hi all, I have a Royal Precision 3+4 which is a great guitar in my experience. Or at least compared to the Carter Starter I started with :) Anyway, I'm thinking about what would be involved in adding a knee lever or additional pedal. Is this a fairly easy task for someone who's not afraid to cut the...

Thoughts and prayers for Buddy Cage

Buddy has a gofundme: https://www.gofundme.com/2qnmkuk Quote: "Hi, I am Natalie Menegus, Publicist for New Riders of the Purple Sage. As most of you know, Buddy Cage was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2012. Since then, he has gone through chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Buddy himse...

Bumping this old thread so I can read it when I get home. Finding info on using "boxes", or "pockets" of pentatonic scales for use in blues, rock, improvisational jam music is hard to come by. I love country and Hawai'ian music but I also would like to be able to bring my steel t...

I have the "Strobostomp" and when I've tuned using the SE9 tuning and attempt to play with a live band it sounds like crap. Completely off.

When I tune using the OE9 it blends real nicely. I'll have to experiment with the SE9/SP9 if it is on my tuner. I'm not sure it is.

Here we go again (pitchy tone while playing with a band)

I've read a lot of threads on the topic and *thought* I had a decent understanding of JI vs ET on a steel but I hope to learn more. I just got a link to a video of a gig I played with 2 other guitarists and a bassist. No drums, no keys, just the 4 of us. I tune my Mullen RP using a Peterson on the S...

THANK YOU!!!! I've been searching for precisely this type of thing. The "Modes" portion is EXACTLY what I've been looking for and what 6-stringers refer to as "pockets"." As a relatively new PSG player and coming from a 6 string background this is invaluable and a HUGE help....

Maybe try Tall Toad Music in Petaluma. I'm not sure if they rent but they have an Emmons and a Maverick in stock. I'm still pretty new as a steeler, but from what I've seen finding a steel guitar in the SF bay area is not easy http://www.talltoadmusic.com/inventory/index.php?method=LIKE&contains...
