Nice to be reminded of Winnie's book. It was important not only for the great instructional content but also for the inspiring overview of the steel guitar world that it provided.

I always have a spare volume pedal and cables and picks and bar etc. Often I've taken a spare amp along if going out of town or somewhere else where I know there's nothing to borrow if something blew up.

John, as I understand it, also from Buddy, the fight happened in Calgary in front of what was then the Calgary Inn (now the Westin) during Festival Express. The version I heard differed in a couple of other particulars too, but Ian did wind up with a broken hand out of the deal.

I'm very sad to hear that. Ron was a sweet man, and I enjoyed hanging with him at the TSGA and playing with him in the non-pedal room. A very sad day. Thanks for letting us know Herb.

Bobby Lee, as Skip says you changed the world in a good way. I have close friends I would probably not have met if it were not for the forum. Thinking back, I recall that when I first decided to attend the ISGC in 1999 the inspiration came from something I read on the Forum, which I had just joined....

I can't imagine that anyone had as big an influence on my musical directions as Ian. I've been playing and singing his songs since I was fifteen. "Someday Soon", "Four Strong Winds" and "Summer Wages" are probably the songs most familiar to the steel guitar crowd, but t...

I've done a fair bit of it over the years, on pedal steel and also playing weissenborn and dobro. I second what Chris said about Rick Schmidt and Pete Burak.

Buddy Cage used to have his amp sitting right by his head, pointed at his best ear. I just can't do that, but I mess around with the position in various ways. As Bob says, point the amp at your head and away from the other guys. But to me every gig sounds different, always has and probably always wi...

I agree with Ken - standard G tuning.. It was probably Fats Kaplin - he played steel, fiddle and accordion on the record. I couldn't find a dobro credit. That is a great song - I first heard it live in Toronto when Tom was touring with the full band and was opening for Tyson at the Diamond. Everyone...

I spent quite a lot of time playing a used one that was in town a few years ago and I loved it. These guitars have a good reputation. I did talk to Junior about his Deneve guitars (I gathered that he had more than one) and he was very happy with them. Junior Barber was an amazing and inspiring player.
